Argonne National Laboratory, a global leader in scientific research, is seeking an accomplished and visionary professional for the pivotal role of Controller. As the Controller, you will be responsible for leading managers and their teams in Accounting (Ledger Accounting, Payroll, Accounts Payable), Performance Assurance, System Transformations, and Systems Integration. This role demands strong leadership, strategic acumen, collaboration skills, and a focus on implementing effective common-sense controls. Emphasis is placed on adherence to best practices, mentoring, and serving as a strategic partner to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Team Management: Provide visionary leadership to managers and teams in Accounting, Performance Assurance, System Transformations, and Systems Integration. Foster a collaborative work environment, instilling a culture of teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement. Mentor and develop team members, fostering their professional growth and skills enhancement. Financial Systems Integration: Oversee the integration of financial systems, ensuring seamless collaboration and data integrity across diverse departments. Develop and implement best practices for systems integration, optimizing efficiency, and maintaining accuracy. Regulatory Compliance and Audits: Navigate and lead through a highly regulated environment with a growing number of audits. Ensure strict compliance with regulatory requirements and standards, collaborating closely with internal and external auditors. Common-Sense Controls Implementation: Develop and implement effective common-sense controls in financial processes to ensure accuracy, reliability, and adherence to compliance standards. Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains through the implementation of pragmatic controls. Strategic Partnership with CFO: Act as a strategic partner to the CFO, offering crucial financial insights, analysis, and recommendations to support decision-making. Collaborate with the CFO in developing and executing financial strategies aligned with the laboratory's mission. Customer Service: Develop and nurture robust working relationships with the Department of Energy (DOE) and other key stakeholders. Collaborate with customers to understand their financial needs, providing high levels of customer service. Promptly address financial inquiries and concerns, ensuring a positive and responsive experience for internal and external stakeholders. Data Quality and Integrity: Emphasize and ensure the paramount importance of data quality and integrity in financial reporting and analysis. Implement and uphold rigorous data management practices to guarantee accurate and reliable financial information. Continuous Improvement and Best Practices: Spearhead continuous improvement initiatives in accounting, performance assurance, and systems integration. Remain abreast of industry best practices and emerging trends, proactively implementing changes to enhance financial processes. Position Requirements Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Certified Public Accountant CPA certification is preferred. Ten (10) or more years of experience in financial management and accounting. Leadership experience in a regulated environment, demonstrating preparedness for audits. Executive and front-line communication and interpersonal skills.
