Job Title

Ophthalmic Technician

Reports To

The Ophthalmic Technicianwill report to Clinical Manager of UCF Health.

Position Summary

This position familiarizes patients with eye care procedures, answer patient questions, and take patient histories to support the Ophthalmology practice.

Fair Labor Standards Act: Non-exempt

Job Family: Clinical Support

Location: UCF Health – Lake Nona

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday; 08:00am – 05:00pm

Status: 1.0 Full Time Equivalent

Responsibilities and Duties

Essential functions

  • Prepares patients for exams, routine procedures and outpatient surgical procedures; assists physician
  • Obtains and documents patients’ ocular, medical, and family history and prepares patient charts
  • Performs ocular assessment and testing, manifest refractometry, and spectacle prescription evaluation
  • Instructs patients regarding medications, tests, and procedures
  • Performs screening and diagnostic testing and assessments under the direction of the ophthalmologist
  • Instills ocular medications
  • Follows up with patients after procedures and resolves questions
  • Maintains adequate supplies in exam and treatment rooms
  • This is a partial list of duties

Qualifications:

  • Education level – High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Licenses – As required by the state of Florida
  • Experience – 0 years of relevant experience.
  • Specific skills – Providing clinical support to medical staff
  • Certifications – Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technician (COMT) preferred
  • Personal characteristics – We are seeking an individual who has a passion for being part of a dynamic academic clinical setting.
  • Physical abilities – Standard office environment with no unique physical demands
