Environmental Engineer I

The Company has strong sales channels in North America, and currently possesses emerging sales channels in EMEA and Asia-Pacific (AP).

The focus of the position will be to execute projects within UCC’s Project Management and Contract Engineering (PMCE) teams. Primary responsibilities will include technically supporting contact execution activities within the power industry, utility and industrial wastewater treatment markets, often acting in the role of technical lead engineer/project engineer. The role may also include onsite assignments for customer meetings, sampling efforts, site walk downs, and/or project support.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated capabilities in collaborating with others to perform engineering tasks within a team environment. Work experience with a privately held company will be beneficial.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Mechanical Engineer will:

  • Participate in the technical execution on assigned contracts; providing creative solutions to solve execution difficulties. Common projects tasks include (but not limited to) perform project sizing calculations, develop Process and Instrumentation Diagrams, select appropriate equipment for the system designed, and develop associated project lists.
  • Monitors and controls all assigned design work for contracts in accordance with cost, schedule, and quality requirements. Ensures any variance and scope changes are acted upon and documented in accordance with the cost management process.
  • Build and maintain technical expertise by staying up to date with current technology.
  • Maintain effective communication and working relationships within the department and between departments thus promoting a cooperative team atmosphere.
  • Demonstrate UCC’s core values.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical engineering is required.
  • A minimum of 2 to 5 years of engineering experience in engineering; power industry or industrial/utility wastewater environments preferred.
  • Professional Registration (PE License) is preferred.
  • General business acumen

Characteristics and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of basic engineering principles, drawings, and methods
  • Strong mechanical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Good understanding of chemistry as it relates to water treatment/processes.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects and deal with ambiguity and competing priorities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Motivated, with a focus on results
  • High energy and commitment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Proficient in CAD (AutoCAD products preferred)

Essential Physical Abilities:

  • Ability to sit or stand at a desk using a computer 80% of the time.
  • Ability to accommodate varying work schedules.
  • Ability to climb up and down stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to walk around power plants for extended periods.
  • Must be willing to travel 10-15% of the time to various plant sites.
