Engineer – Pipe Supports

The focus of the Engineer II Pipe Support Engineering plans, organizes, coordinates, and prepares engineering analysis and design of piping and/or pipe supporting systems for assigned engineering/design projects from pre-contract sales support to Order Release and through customer acceptance of deliverables ensuring that technical, quality, schedule and cost commitments are met.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Engineer – Pipe Supports will:

  • Prepares engineering analysis of piping system design and/or pipe supporting systems in accordance with scope, quality, and budget requirements for all assigned work for contracts and proposals.
  • Monitors and controls all assigned design work for contracts, proposals, and the department in accordance with schedule requirements ensuring any variance and scope changes are acted upon and documented in accordance with current procedures.
  • Incorporates the use of applicable design standards, software, and applicable design codes in the preparation of all design assignments for contracts and proposals.
  • Coordinates all design assignment activities for contract and proposal work in accordance with Corporate Policies, Guidelines and Procedures Manual and Department requirements.
  • Maintains effective communication and working relationships within the department and between departments thus promoting a cooperative team atmosphere.
  • Knowledgeable of basic design and analysis methods for structural steel and reinforced concrete structures and of AISC, ACI, AWS, UBC, BOCA, SBC, OSHA, and other applicable codes.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education and Licenses/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical and/or Structural Engineering.
  • 3-5 years as an Engineer I, Structural Engineer I, or comparable experience.
  • EIT certification preferred.
  • Society of Piping Engineers and Designers (SPED) certification or equal highly desired.

Work-Related Experience:

  • Technical background in piping and pipe support systems.
  • 2-3 years’ Drafting experience using AutoCAD.
  • 2-5 years’ experience with piping stress analysis software, preferably Cesar II (or similar software).

  • Ability to obtain TWIC card.
  • Ability to travel freely within the United States and internationally as needed.
  • Knowledge of national and state laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Competent in the use of computer aided design software and design review tools.

Essential Physical Abilities:

  • Ability to sit or stand at a computer for 80% of the day.
  • Ability to perform basic physical duties such as nominal lifting, bending, and dexterity.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
