UCC Environmental is Hiring a Director EPC Projects Near Waukegan, IL

The Director, EPC Projects is responsible for execution of Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) type contracts, from pre-contract sales support through customer acceptance of deliverables and final payment, ensuring that quality, schedule, and cost commitments are met, and system performance guarantees are achieved.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides strategic leadership, direction, and management to ensure that EPC contracts are executed to meet customer needs and contract requirements, while meeting company targets for on-time, budget, and cost of quality performance.
  • Develops construction management capabilities (processes and expertise) to allow UCC to successfully participate in installation scope work, including developing balance-of-plant (BoP) and installation subcontract partners to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Reviews UCC’s EPC resources and methods. Drives company-wide improvements to workflows, processes and reports. Uses software tools to reduce the amount of labor hours to complete tasks.
  • Develops positive relationships with customers, consultants, end users, and suppliers for support and collaboration. Maintains healthy relationships with internal UCC departments and offices.
  • Manages staff and departmental expenses to meet corporate utilization and budget goals. Develops and maintains quality and quantity of staff to meet the needs of the marketplace through training and performance management.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • 7 -10 years of project management experience, preferably within the power or process industries.
  • 4 - 6 years of direct supervisory experience.
  • 4 - 6 years of construction/field service management experience.
  • Previous experience in an engineering, manufacturing, technical sales and/or field construction/commissioning environment.

Certifications and Licenses Preferred:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Master of Project Management or Master of Business and Administration preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE)

Characteristics and Skills:

  • Excellent understanding of project management methods and techniques.
  • Strong understanding of basic engineering principles, practices, drawings and methods.
  • Excellent ability to successfully manage staff, prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Strong ability to multi-task, successfully manage demands of simultaneous activities.
  • Excellent ability to examine and effectively resolve conflicts.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office. Working knowledge of MS Project or Primavera P6.

  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

Essential Physical Abilities:

  • Ability to sit or stand at a computer for 80% of the day.
  • Ability to travel 10% - 20% of the time.
