Position Summary:
The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist will perform all duties and tasks under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist. The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist may be assigned to the following shifts: 6:30 AM-7:00 PM; 9:00 AM-9:30 PM; 11:00 AM011:30 PM, including weekends and holidays and to various ORs and specialties including OB as needed.
Under the supervision of an anesthesiologist, perform safe anesthesia care, consisting of the following: pre- operative assessment, writing of appropriate pre-op orders as specified by approved standard procedure, administration of all types of anesthetic and techniques, patient monitoring intra-operatively, provides for safe intra-op course and emergence and assists as necessary in post-operative care.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $115.28 - $126.07 (Hourly Rate). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $115.28 - $158.29 (Hourly Rate).

Required:
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Graduation from ab accredited school of nurse anesthesia
  • Valid California Registered Nurse license
  • Valid California Nurse Anesthetist license
  • Current certification by National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA)
  • Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification by the American Heart Association
  • California RN and Nurse Anesthetist License
  • ACLS Certification
  • AANA Certification
  • Knowledge of current nursing, anesthesia and critical care techniques as evidenced by the following: - Graduation from an accredited school of nursing - Graduation from an accredited school of nurse anesthesia - Valid California Registered Nurse license - Valid California Nurse Anesthetist license - Current certification by National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) - Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification by the American Heart Association - Skill in performing pre-operative assessment of surgical patients, including: Identification of pre-existing disease entities and their potential impact upon anesthesia care and plan through documentation of past medical history, physical examination, laboratory tests, ECG and chest X-ray - Understanding interactions of pre-operative drug therapy with proposed anesthetic plan and agents for all age groups Identification of abnormalities on physical examination which pose potential problems in anesthesia management - Understanding the medical indications for delay of elective surgery and for pre-operative specialty consultation - Ability to explain the proposed anesthetic technique, alternatives, risks and problems, thus obtaining proper documented legal informed consent prior to the administration of anesthesia - Ability to properly and completely document significant information to form an anesthesia record of pre-operative, intra-operative and postoperative events - Skill in determining patient need and indication for various monitoring modalities, including arterial lines and Swan Ganz pulmonary artery catheters - Ability to safely insert venous and arterial monitoring lines and devices under medical direction of anesthesiologist - Knowledge of pharmacology, dosage, side effects and contraindications of all drugs currently employed in anesthesia practice at UCI - Skill in performing all techniques of monitored, regional and general anesthesia commonly employed at UCI for all age categories - Skill in identifying adverse effects of all anesthesia techniques and in initiating emergency treatment while informing the attending anesthesiologist responsible for the anesthesia care of the patient - Knowledge of cardiac, respiratory, neuro, endocrine and renal physiology as these relate to intra-operative events and management - Skill at recognizing airway abnormalities and the associated anesthesia implications - Skill in airway management techniques, including safe insertion of nasal and oral airways and performance of laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation for establishment and maintenance of surgical procedure - Skill in identifying the required safe level of insensibility or narcosis for each individual patient and surgical procedure - Ability to recognize return of consciousness and reflexes signaling safe emergence from anesthesia, transport of patient to recovery room and informed report to qualified medical personnel who will assume care of the patient - Ability to recognize post-operative complications of anesthesia, initiate emergency treatment when indicated as directed by the attending anesthesiologist, and document appropriately - Ability to assist in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other emergency situations by recognizing cardiac arrest and shock, initiating CPR, airway management techniques and insertion of monitoring lines under the direction of an anesthesiologist - Ability to perform selected educational supervisory and administrative tasks, including supervision of student anesthetists when assigned, and assessment of orientation and progress
