Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the Chief Alumni Officer, the Senior Director, Marketing & Events, UCI Alumni Association will oversee the marketing and events activities of the UCIAA, including the communications team, the business development and membership team, special events, and building management. The Senior Director will determine objectives, direct programs, develop strategies and policies, and manage human, financial, and physical resources for all teams under their direction, all of which identify, build, nurture and maintain effective relationships with alumni. Functioning with a high degree of autonomy, the Senior Director will proactively assess risk to establish systems and procedures to protect the assets of the UCIAA. They will provide senior level support to the UCIAA, determine strategies for the UCIAA marketing and events team and will determine how to use resources to meet schedules and goals.

$125,000.00 - $145,000.00 (Annual Salary) Expected Pay Range within the Full Salary Range $90,493.92 - $169,691.76 (Annual Salary)

Required:

7-10 years of experience in marketing, events and people management. Experience in higher education and/or alumni associations preferred but not required.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Strong knowledge of management principles, including personnel and budget administration and advanced skill in implementing effective personnel and budget operations and practices. Strong written, verbal, interpersonal communication and leadership skills, including attentive listening, and the skill to think quickly and respond appropriately. Strong skills in advocating for and representing the institution to its various publics. Possess traits of good judgment, confidentiality and discretion in communicating with colleagues and constituents. Strong analytical, negotiation and political acumen skills. Excellent interpersonal communication and political acumen to effectively work with internal customers and external constituencies. Excellent strategic planning skills. Proven experience with effectively organizing resources and setting and establishing priorities. Excellent Leadership / management skills, including skills to lead, direct, mentor, evaluate and motivate staff, including skills to take disciplinary action as necessary. Strong skills in understanding constituency needs as related to institutional needs and skills in designing solutions or strategies to achieve consensus. Skill in communicating persuasively, both orally and in writing, with different external constituencies, in particular as it applies to units directly supervised. Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written. Ability to creatively solve problems and make difficult decisions, using strong negotiating skills. Thorough knowledge of current and emerging marketing trends in the alumni community and best practices, including new and emerging strategies and technologies. Resourcefulness in finding appropriate solutions to problems and initiative in presenting alternatives and implementing solutions to ensure effective change. Ability to anticipate problems and take necessary action to eliminate or mitigate potential negative effects. Ability to be flexible in working independently as well as collaboratively with Advancement and faculty and staff to achieve defined goals. Use initiative to organize and follow through with complex tasks to meet deadlines. Ability to plan strategically in a customer-oriented environment to promote efficient and effective operations.

Preferred:

Strong, thorough and in-depth knowledge of the campus and / or medical center, including short and long range strategic plans, vision, goals, objectives, infrastructure, programs, achievements and awards. Strong comprehensive knowledge of relevant alumni and other key constituencies including their composition and primary goals / objectives.
