Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the faculty Co-Principal Investigators (Co-PIs) for the several health equity initiatives, this individual will assist with research-related responsibilities to support the execution of these projects. The goal of these initiatives is to advocate for and reduce health inequities affecting low-income communities and communities of color in Orange County, CA.

$27.87 - $44.85 (Hourly Rate)

Required:

Bachelor’s Degree (or substantial experience) in a related health-related field Previous experience in social & behavioral research, environmental health, and/or health promotion program preferred. Data analysis skills preferred (quantitative and/or qualitative Excellent interpersonal skills to relate easily and effectively with people within and outside the University, including both strong written and verbal communications. Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize. Skill to use a personal computer and computer software programs at the level of sophistication required for general office work. Knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with the Internet and how to conduct searches. Proficient writing skills to prepare/compose/review a variety of communications, primarily electronic. Able to use personal car to travel to in-person community meetings and research activities. Available to work some early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Fluent in Spanish preferred (oral, written).

Special Conditions Required:

Orange County, California is the sixth most populous county in the US, with Latiné and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) residents comprising 55% of the 3.2 million residents. In a geographic area composed of Santa Ana and other North Orange County cities reside 588,000 people in 92 census tracts who are considered of greatest need. Residents of these areas have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and other health issues including climate change. For example, in 2020-2021, they made up 18% of OC’s total population, but 41% of its confirmed COVID cases and 43% of COVID deaths. These same communities are differentially burdened by morbidity and mortality and social and environmental exposures linked with social inequities. The goal of this set of projects is to reduce health inequities among the diverse and underserved populations of Orange County and the Southern California region.
