Position Summary:
Department of Medicine is comprised of 11 divisions The Department of Medicine is expanding its research portfolio through the addition of several new faculty and areas of research. This is an outstanding opportunity to manage a team in a hybrid work environment. The Department of Medicine has 11 divisions, more than 300 employees and more than $68 million in expenditures annually. The mission of the Department of Medicine is to deliver accessible, patient-centered healthcare of the highest caliber while training compassionate, visionary and innovative clinicians and researchers. We develop, teach and practice state-of-the-art, evidenced-based medicine that holds the promise of a better future for the people of California and beyond.
Provide oversight of the post award function for the Department of Medicine comprising of contract & grant and research related recharge and sales and service activities and payroll activities. Total awards under management is approximately $29 million. Provides high level policy analysis and interpretation and performs independent problem solving that requires interaction with principal investigators, laboratory staff and various levels of Contract and Grant Accounting, Office of Research Administration, School of Medicine Research Support Services and Graduate Studies as well as other UC campuses. Supervises contract and grant analyst staff with post award duties. Recruits, hires and trains staff. Develops career development plans and conducts performance evaluations. The position interprets policy and develop/implement procedures to ensure compliance and support effective operations, as well as providing corrective guidance as needed. Establishes and maintains complex financial control and reporting systems. Manages department payroll certifications and business agreements and contracts process. Develop regular reports on the status of awards for the department.

$81,900.00 - $150,500.00 (Annual Salary)

Required:
  • Directly related experience in management of federal contracts and grants. 
  • Experience using KFS, and UC Path.
  • Bachelor's degree or combination of education and experience
  • Extensive knowledge of program administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment. 
  • Ability to manage high volume and complex transactions. Ability to perform highly complex financial analysis and customized reporting. 
  • Demonstrated advanced competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports. 
  • Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas. 
  • Maintains knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply sponsor, institutional and departmental policies. 
  • Knowledge of current compliance regulations in all areas of research administration. 
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles. 
  • Experience with all types of award mechanisms, including grants, contracts, subcontracts, and cooperative agreements. 
  • Full knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation, Code of Federal Regulations, sponsor-specific policies, intellectual property policy, conflict of interest requirements, publication rights, application of indirect cost rates and other complex concepts in research administration. 
  • Ability to interpret policy for others. Advanced knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques 
  • Experience using payroll systems and auditing entries to source documents.
Preferred:
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc. 
  • Advanced ability to create and train grant writing and other communications skills in a variety of styles to ensure securing grant funding required.
