Job Summary

[OTOLARYNGOLOGY CLINIC]

The Patient Services Representative 3 (MOSC 3) is responsible for sustaining an environment of intrinsic goodwill for the practice while providing optimum services to patients. This position requires the skills and ability to manage the level of responsibility and accountability necessary to provide specialized duties for the department/clinical team for which it is assigned.

This position may also perform front office duties consistent with that of Patient Services Representative 2 (MOSC 2), per operational needs.

This posting is a Transfer/Promotional opportunity for UCD/UCDHS Employees (internal candidates). Applications from current UCD/UCDHS employees will be considered first. Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated recent experience in surgery scheduling
  • Demonstrated experience in an Ambulatory clinic
  • Demonstrated recent customer service experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer (PC) system applications (such as MS Office Suite, cloud-based applications, etc.)
  • Experience in practices and protocols related to medical office procedures, including but not limited to medical terminology, appointments, medical records, insurance verification, cashiering, billing, etc.
  • Knowledge of health care insurance systems, which may include Medi-Cal, MediCare, HMO, PPO, fee-for1service, county-funded coverage, and workers’ compensation, sufficient to properly obtain and track authorizations, appoint patients, make referrals for consults, diagnostics, and ancillary services, coordinate hospital services, complete and submit billing documentation, and explain provisions and requirements to patients
  • Knowledge of ICD-9/10, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines sufficient to accurately identify services performed, including diagnoses, procedures, and supplies


Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated recent experience using EPIC/EMR
  • Demonstrated experience in insurance authorizations and referral processing
  • Demonstrated experience within an ENT (Otolaryngology) clinic or department


Department Description

OTOLARYNGOLOGY CLINIC

The Department of Otolaryngology provides a multitude of comprehensive services within the clinic for both the pediatric and adult populations. These services include general otolaryngology, head, and neck cancer, skull base surgery, ear surgery, cochlear implant, facial plastic, and reconstructive surgery, nasal sinus, craniofacial anomalies, voice/swallowing, speech, and language therapy, audiology, dental and skin care. The Otolaryngology Clinic has more than twenty thousand patient visits per year and is ranked 25th among all Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialties in America.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be willing to work variable days (including weekends), hours and locations as required to meet business needs of the practice.
  • For positions with medical records responsibilities, duties require ability to retrieve and file bulky medical record charts (up to 3" thick) stored in filing cabinets and on shelves that may be above shoulder level and below waist level, and to efficiently transport multiple charts weighing 5 to 25 pounds throughout the medical office.

  • This position is a critical position and subject to a background check and drug screen. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history, identity checks and drug screen.
