Department Description
The UC Davis Children’s Hospital Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Special Care Nursery is a tertiary and quaternary care treatment unit specializing in the care of high-risk infants, including those born prematurely and very prematurely, from 23 to 37 weeks gestation. The nursery also cares for infants born with congenital defects as well as birth related conditions, including congenital heart defects, gastroschisis, myelomeningocele (spina bifida), metabolic disorders and persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn, as well as birth related conditions such as jaundice, birth asphyxia, sepsis, pneumonia, perinatal depression and intraventricular hemorrhage. Our Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is recognized for the Beacon Gold Award, Safe Sleep Gold Award, ACS Level I Pediatric Surgical Accreditation, Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology Center of Excellence, and ranked 29th by the US New and World report.

Responsibilities
Provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
Required Qualifications
- At least 1 year of recent Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Experience
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Possession of a current California RN license.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Knowledge of current trends in nursing.
- Commitment to excellence in patient care.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates accountability and professionalism.
- Adapts to change in a positive, professional and productive manner.
- Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation.
- Knowledge of performance improvement and evidence-based practice.
- Basic computer skills.
- CPR Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience caring for micro premies, cardiac infants and children with gastrointestinal malformations.
- S.T.A.B.L.E. certification.
- BSN.
Special Requirements
References reflect an overall meets or exceeds.
Ability to work overtime, float to other areas and work weekends and holidays.
Ability to safely lift 25 lbs. and assist in moving patients, and stand on feet over extended periods.
