Summary of Job Duties : This posting will be used to fill multiple positions

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs patient care tasks and duties which do not require a license. The PCT is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary patient management team in H8 Neurology / Neurosurgery Unit.

This area provides comprehensive quality care for an inpatient 30 bed unit to adolescent, adult, and geriatric neurology and neurosurgical patients in a caring and therapeutic environment.

Neurosurgical services include, but are not limited to pre and post-op care for procedures, such as craniotomy, spinal decompression and brain stimulation and treatment of infections of the cranial and spinal areas.

Neurological services consist of care of stroke, seizure monitoring and other Neurological disorders.

Qualifications :

Required Qualifications :

High School Diploma / GED and successful completion of patient care technician course within 3 months of hire required.

Must have excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability.

Must be able to lift 100 lbs. to waist height.

Preferred Qualifications :

Certification as a nursing assistant or military corpsman.

Previous Patient Care experience in acute care setting.

Responsibilities :

The Patient Care Technician works under the direct supervision of the R.N. and performs tasks and duties which do not require a license, professional judgment or intervention.

The PCT must pass the required competencies. The PCT works within the Department of Nursing standards. The PCT adheres to UAMS clinical programs, policies, procedures and standards and guest care guidelines.

Obtains patient report and has on-going communication with R.N. regarding patient care / changes in condition; Informs nurse of patient requests or complaints.

Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.

Transports patients to other areas of the hospital as directed.

Carries out the Plan of Care for Patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach as Delegated by Team Leader.

Communicates effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care.

Follows through on delegated patient care activities.

Provides appropriate grooming / oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with activities (ambulation, up in chair, turn and reposition).

Documents all patient care activities / tasks, vital signs, ADL, wave tests, I&O's accurately and timely and per unit and department standards.

Assists patients and visitors with information and / or solutions to problems.

Serves as resources person to support department members in performance of duties.

Notifies appropriate staff members of problems requiring prompt intervention.

May perform other duties as assigned.

All new Patient Care Technicians are required to complete 5 weeks of training Monday - Friday 8 : 00AM - 5 : 00PM after being hired.

Employees in this role must be fitted for, capable of donning and performing routine tasks in personal protective equipment to include N95 masks, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) or Controlled Air Purifying Respirators (CAPR).
