UAB Health System is Hiring a Staff Accountant Near Birmingham, AL
UAB Callahan Eye is seeking a Staff Accountant in our Finance Department. Reporting to the Assistant CFO, the staff accountant performs General Accounting duties and is responsible for the accuracy of the financial reports and transactions for UAB Callahan Eye.
Duties & Responsibilities

- Uses data to improve the department's performance in an ongoing manner.
Primary Responsibilities
- Produces financial reports of the HCA and the foundation, analyzing them for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepares Q&A to explain budget variances and unusual expenses and correct journal entries when necessary.
- Review and reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly for presentation for review by the CFO.
- Maintains fixed asset register, reconciling depreciation schedule and capital expenditure request log.
- Prepares work papers for annual financial audit.
- Prepares various financial analyses as requested by the CFO or Health system CFO.
- Assists hospital staff in solving complex issues relating to transaction processing and/or reconciliation.
- Maintains all client receivables for rent and other billable transactions for POB tenants.
- Follow up on all past-due receivables and alerts.
- Maintain adequate working knowledge of all financial processing and reporting applications to assist in the temporary absence of other Finance department personnel.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in business with a concentration in accounting is required.
- One to three years business experience preferred.
- Experience with computerized healthcare information systems preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
