The Quality Inspection Specialist must possess the ability to reflect the quality philosophy and convey those principles to management and team members. Also responsible for regular communications, reporting to supervisor, department heads and/or management any gauge or machine which could cause a delay or scrap. The Quality Inspection Specialist will operate in compliance with internal safety policies and mandatory regulations.

The essential skills and requirements of the Quality Inspection Specialist are as follows:

Gauges

• Ability to “read” an engineering drawing and extract the pertinent information to include the drawing number including revision, the gauge identification information, identifying the location on the gauge to apply the calibration measurement, and the proper dimensional information.
• Perform mathematical calculations to determine variance from nominal dimensions.
• Disassemble, clean, and reassemble calipers, dial indicators, and other miscellaneous gauges.
• Assemble gauge testing / calibration equipment, attach the gauges, and calibrate the gauge.
• Track and maintain gauge inventory.
• Communicate with Gauge Suppliers for repair & maintenance (outside of our abilities or scope) and procurement of new ones.
• Communicate with US Pipe personnel for the development, repair and maintenance of Gauges as needed.

Calibrations

• Schedules testing and annual calibrations of all lab equipment using various software to track & perform calibrations for all lab equipment.
• Schedules testing and annual calibrations of pipe check weights
• Randomly audit incoming production certifications
• Perform monthly leach tests.
• Develop & maintain documentation for performing calibrations.

Trainer

• Instructs and mentors personnel in proper techniques and procedures required for them to use the gauges required for them to perform their job functions.
• Is proficient and able to assist in all aspects of the inspection process.
• Develops & maintains gauge documentation (usage, storage, location, etc.)

Auditor

• Responsible for periodic compliance audits of the Inspection, Measurement, and Test Equipment (IMTE).
• Responsible to maintain the Gage-Trak system (or equivalent)
• Participate on third party inspections (UL, FM, BNQ, ISO, BV)

CI

• Participate on CI Teams, lead CI Initiatives; 5S events, process improvements, etc.

Customer Interactions

• Participate in the analysis of Returns under guidance of Quality Manager.
• Keep track of returned samples
• Disassemble returned joints as required
• Cut coupons for further testing
• May Operate cutting and beveling equipment for lab samples and removes cut pipe pieces when required
• Participate in field visits / examinations / reconciliation activities
• Travel to jobsites to assist with customer issues as needed

High School diploma or GED required

Previous Quality Inspection and/or Quality Assurance experience preferred.

The ability and self-motivation to work alone or as part of a Team while upholding to the strict standards of the Quality policies and protocols of the manufacturing process.

The ability to read, understand and implement quality standards and their importance in the manufacturing process.

The ability to be able to multi-task different projects at one time.

Must be detail oriented and follow the principles of standard work.

Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
