U.S. Mint is Hiring a Metal Forming Machine Operator (Coin Manufacturer) Near Philadelphia, PA

This position is located at US Mint,Philadelphia Mint-MANUFACTURING DEPT/Plant Mgr PA/ OFFICE OF ADMIN PA/Numismatic Div. This description describes duties and responsibilities for a variety of processes used in the making of circulated coins. Includes such skills as in-depth troubleshooting and repair techniques, inspection, loading and maintenance operations in the production of coins, die setting, stamping, die control, laboring and the use of other equipment and machines.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service.

You must meet the screen-out element Ability To Provide Production Support Services, normally addressed at the beginning of the online questions. In addition, you must also obtain an average score of two (2) for the following elements for this position as addressed through the online question in order to be considered minimally qualified. Your application will be evaluated in the following areas: Ability To Provide Production Support Services (screen-out), Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials, etc. (includes constructing repair, and forging), Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading), Dexterity (Assembly Disassembly Reassembly etc.

Responsibilities:

The following are the duties of this position at the WG-10. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
  • Have the knowledge, skill, and ability to disassemble, repair, rebuild, modify, and adjust or manufacture component parts for automated feed systems, mills, clutch assemblies, feed conveyors, sensors and actuators (electronic and hydraulic), adjust safety devices including door interlocks as necessary using hand tools, grinders, drill presses and other shop tools as necessary.
  • Perform fine adjustments that are required but are not limited to: adjusting the stroke, push off, timing and indexing and adjusting the mills and end mills to within tolerances of (.0001).
  • Install power sources on standalone conveyor modules and maintains the hydraulically controlled torque wrenches (this includes Replacing worn gaskets and parts, hydraulic lines, adjusting the PSI, changing different heads for different setups.
  • Recognize defective coins to avoid public distribution and detect improperly functioning equipment to prevent damage to equipment or coins is imperative.
