Description

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Minority Programs (OMP), Energy and Economic Justice Policy (EEJP) is seeking fellows to participate in policy-related projects in the DOE's Science, Technology and Policy (STP) Fellowship Program. The goal is to develop future leaders in an equitable and justice energy future, and participants will be given an opportunity to participate in policy-related projects at DOE’s Office of Energy Justice and Equity (EJE), Office of Energy Justice Policy and Analysis in Washington, DC.

About the Office of Minority Programs

This opportunity is located in the Minority Business and Workforce Division (MBWD) of OMP within the Office of Energy Justice and Equity (EJE), Department of Energy (DOE). The Office supports the development and implementation of comprehensive Department-wide policies that strengthen diversity goals affecting minority businesses, minority serving institutions, and historically underrepresented communities. OMP’s oversight is statutorily mandated within Public Law 95-619 that stipulates the development and implementation of comprehensive Department-wide policies, procedures and systems pertaining to establishing a comprehensive, nationwide energy related industries jobs program. OMP supports implementation of the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law by conducting research and analysis to connect minority business enterprises and diverse start-up enterprises to DOE opportunities.

What will I be doing?

As a participant, you will gain insight into the federal government's role in the creation and implementation of policies and programs that will affect energy technology development. You will also be able to utilize your experience, knowledge, and education to contribute to the implementation of energy policies and programs by applying economic analysis and research to issues of importance to the DOE. Additionally, you will be trained and learn along-side a group of highly-experienced scientists, engineers, and business professionals and be involved in projects that support the DOE mission either in a technical or policy-related area.

Participant Benefits

During the appointment, you will receive a monthly stipend. Stipend amounts are determined by the Office of Energy Justice and Equity, and are typically based on the participant's academic standing, discipline, and experience. A supplemental stipend to offset the costs of health insurance may also be authorized. Participants are required to have health insurance and are eligible to purchase health insurance plans offered through the Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU)'s network coverage plan provider. Participants may also receive an allowance for education and/or scientific activities.

Length of Appointment

Appointments are typically one-year, renewable up to an additional four years, depending on project needs and funding.

Nature of the Appointment

The DOE Science, Technology and Policy (STP) Fellowship Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. The program is administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). During the appointment, you will be considered a participant and will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, Oak Ridge Associated Universities, DOE, or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE Appointment Letter and Terms of Appointment.
