U.S Comm for Refuge is Hiring an Education Program Coordinator Near Albany, NY

Overview

USCRI is seeking a full-time Education Coordinator to assist in connecting newly arrived refugees with educational opportunities. The successful candidate will have at least two years of experience and is responsible for providing English language instruction to adult refugees and immigrants in addition to connecting them to outside ENL opportunities. They are also responsible for coordinating weekly Cultural Orientation sessions in accordance with federal guidelines and adult learning principles. Additional duties include handling corresponding logistical and administrative tasks, such as encouraging and tracking attendance, and liaising with local education institutions. This position is part of the Reception & Placement team but will work closely with all USCRI-Albany departments.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Overseeing course curriculum development, creating lesson plans, assignments
  • Implementing curriculum using adult-learning principles, a strengths-based approach, cultural sensitivity, and incorporating technology-based activities
  • Facilitating discussions and maintaining a classroom environment that empowers students and ensures successful learning experiences
  • Actively encouraging and tracking participant attendance
  • Coordinating pre- and post-testing and assessing and evaluating student progress throughout the duration of the course
  • Assisting learners with enrolling in outside educational opportunities (at community partners, community colleges, et cetera)
  • Coordinating and facilitating weekly Cultural Orientation sessions
  • Assisting with school enrollments as needed


Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in TESOL, TESL, or Applied Linguistics strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
  • Two years relevant experience teaching adult ENL learners and/or experience with refugees
  • Best Plus certification or other language testing mode, a plus
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite products
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Strong ability to work as a team member and independently
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission of USCRI


Physical Demands

  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds)
