TITLE

Artistic Manager, Musical Theatre

JOB SUMMARY

Coordinates and recruits for the TWU Musical Theatre Program. Duties include development and implementation of a comprehensive recruiting plan, coordination of outreach to high schools and regional theatre companies, coordination of on and off-campus productions, and collaborations with School of the Arts and Design faculty and staff. Work is performed under minimal supervision and performance is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Director, School of the Arts & Design 

Supervises:No supervisory responsibility 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES -May include, but not limited to the following:

  1. Develops a comprehensive recruiting plan for musical theatre.
  2. Actively recruits musical theatre students, including attendance at major recruiting events.
  3. Develops materials (printed, PowerPoint, etc.) for presentations to potential students, their parents, external theatre companies, and other interested parties.
  4. Works with the Manager of Music Events and Operations to develop a print advertising campaign.
  5. Develops a social media presence in consultation with the music office.
  6. Develops and maintains dynamic displays for recruiting booths at conferences.
  7. Works with University Advancement to develop a donor base for musical theatre.
  8. Establishes and expands the reputation and outreach of the TWU musical theatre program.
  9. Develops relationships and outreach activities with high school musical theatre programs.
  10. Develops relationships with regional theatre companies for the mutual benefit of those companies and our students.
  11. Works with the Director of the School of the Arts and Design to identify and recommend adjuncts for courses taught as needed.
  12. Works with Director of the School of the Arts and Design to recommend and coordinate ad hoc personnel (directors, designers, etc.) 
  13. Consults and advises on artistic and technical matters relating to musical theatre productions.
  14. Coordinates scheduling of on-campus performance venues with Manager of Music Events and Operations.
  15. Coordinates off-campus performance venues.
  16. Develops relationships with all units of the SOAD to foster collaborative projects.
  17. Works with designated faculty to review curriculum and plan projects.
  18. Develops and articulates the vision for the Musical Theatre program.
  19. Serves as an ambassador for the Musical Theatre program and the School of the Arts and Design.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Performs other duties as requested.

EDUCATION

Master’s degree in theater, music, or other arts-related field and/or comparable professional experience. 

EXPERIENCE

Three years of experience in venue management and production at a university or professional level. Supervisory experience preferred.

REQUIREMENT

Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.

  • Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Knowledge of management methods and ability to provide administrative guidance and provide direct training and supervision as needed.
  • Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate a complex operation, using manpower, time, funds, and other resources for the accomplishment of long-term and short-term goals of the institution.
  • Ability to provide administrative guidance within area of responsibility, providing direct training and supervision as needed.
  • Ability to apply budgetary and fiscal planning techniques within financial constraints. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively -orally, by phone, in person, and in writing.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including related university software and email. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee may be required to travel. The employee must have the ability to climb ladders and work in heights and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
