Position Information
Position Title
Large Animal Caretaker
Job Summary
Assist with upkeep and health maintenance of University-owned animals. Assist with animal transportation.
Essential Job Duties
- Clean and sanitize stalls and barns daily
- Keep feed room swept and cleaned
- Clean and sanitize water buckets and troughs daily
- Keep paddock and outside exercise areas clean.
- Assist with feeding and watering animals as needed
- Unloading and storing feed, hay and bedding in the appropriate areas
- Providing animals for laboratories as needed
- Assist with pasture maintenance and upkeep
- Weekend and holiday work may be required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the VMTH Director and the Head of the Department of Clinical Sciences in consultation with the hospital director.
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
- High School graduate or equivalent
Physical Demands
- Be able to lift 50 lbs or more without difficulty
Skills and Attributes
- Experience working with farm animals
- Ability to operate farm equipment (tractor, bush hog, pressure washer etc.)
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
