TURNING POINT JOB DESCRIPTION


TITLE:
Education and Outreach Advocate

REPORTS TO: Director of Community Engagement & Education

CLASSIFICATION: Full Time Exempt


POSITION SUMMARY

The Education and Outreach Advocate will partner on the development and implementation of education, outreach, and systems change to increase survivor support and rights, and address the conditions that create domestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking, and oppression.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

The Education and Outreach Advocate must have a working knowledge of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking dynamics, and experience working with middle and high school youth.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for facilitating prevention education presentations in area middle and high schools, agency CORE training, and community education presentations.
  • Conduct outreach and develop relationships with community organizations, schools, youth-serving organizations, and community members to expand Turning Point’s reach, advocacy, and education program.
  • Collaborate on the development, implementation, and evaluation of the sexual violence outreach plan and youth engagement strategy.
  • Collaborate with community partners to improve responses to sexual assault, increase support for survivors and offender accountability, and address the conditions that cause violence and oppression.
  • Collaborate on program and curriculum revisions to align with the needs of survivors in our community, best practices, and relevancy to the experiences of youth.
  • Engage youth as change agents and advocates in the work to end violence and oppression through Turning Point’s community education and Youth Advisory Board.
  • Maintain accurate timesheets and reports for the agency and funders.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced office environment.
  • Allow for flexibility in schedule, work location and job function.
  • Must be able to drive to multiple sites.
  • Ability and willingness to be available for non-scheduled emergency call-in when necessary.
  • Ability to lift 20lbs.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment.
  • Must have the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Must have reliable transportation, insurance, a valid Michigan Driver’s License, and a good driving record.
  • Must pass a criminal background check as a condition of employment.
