Tuolumne County is Hiring an Eligibility Screener Near Sonora, CA
Under limited supervision, the Screener assists applicants for public assistance programs; explains policies and procedures; gathers and verifies facts and information; initiates cases through an automated system; makes appropriate referrals for health, social and/or employment services; and performs related work as required.
The Screener is a specialized clerical classification. Incumbents in this class have primary responsibility for performing the application screening interview and related functions.
The Screener differs from the Office Assistant III, in that the latter may perform application screening interviews as a duty, while having primary responsibility for other advanced clerical functions. The Screener differs from the Eligibility Specialist in that the Eligibility Specialist classification determines initial and continuing eligibility, authorizes aid payments, initiates case changes, performs in-depth interactive interviewing, and applies extensive multiple aid program knowledge.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED
Incumbents in the Screener classification receive supervision from an Eligibility Supervisor or other higher-level supervisor or manager. A Screener has no responsibility for directing or supervising others, and is responsible for own work only.

- The ability to speak, read and write Spanish in addition to English would be an asset in this position, but is not required.
- A valid driver's license may be required at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
- Positions may require pre-employment screening, including background checks, and fingerprinting.
- Government agencies accessing US government information, which include federal tax information must ensure that background investigation requirements for all agency employees and contractors that have access to federal tax information are consistent to the IRS background investigation requirements for access to federal tax information. A background check may be required if the position requires access to these types of records. Background requirements consist of three components which include, fingerprinting, citizenship verification and local law enforcement checks. State agencies must conduct investigation during time of hire and ensure a reinvestigation is conducted 10 years from the date of the previous background investigation for each employee that has access to federal tax information.
- Relief employees receive no benefit package and serve at the pleasure of their department head. Relief positions are temporary positions and may have either a fixed schedule or be used on a fill in basis.

- County Contribution Towards Health Care Costs:
Up to $1,050 month for employee only
