Tunnel To Towers Foundation is Hiring an Associate Director, Homeless Veteran Program Near Staten Island, NY

The mission of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. We also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is committed to eradicating homelessness amongst our veterans. The Foundation is seeking an experienced Assistant Director to assist in all matters as it relates our Homeless Veteran Initiative Program and to provide direct supervision to the Case Management team.

Applicants must be well organized, able to effectively multi-task within a timely fashion, prioritize workload, handle sensitive information and possess a keen attention to detail. This full time position will have a work schedule that is a mix of some weekday and weekend shifts to ensure proper coverage for our expanding team.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Supervise, team-build, coach, and train case management staff to provide exemplary case manager services to homeless or at risk of becoming homeless Veterans and Veteran families.
  • Develop staff’s competencies in client engagement, case management, clinical assessment, service plans, crisis intervention, housing connections, outreach, and external referral resources.
  • Participate and lead programming/clinical supervision, case conferences, staff meetings, and trainings.
  • Ensure accuracy of and timely completion of required case documentation. Ensure that housing stability plans and goals are implemented when needed
  • Ensure case managers meet data quality requirements. Review and audit case records that are entered into the electronic case management system to ensure adherence to documentation and data standards, along with eligibility requirements.
  • Monitor outcomes and data collection for Veteran inquiries, closed cases, Veterans placed in housing, prevention of Veteran homelessness, linkages to employment and benefits, and overall stability and rehabilitation of Veterans served.
  • Coordinate and maintain data on business relationships with other local, national, and Tunnel to Towers affiliate organizations in the development of providing Veteran resources and ongoing referrals networks. Track referrals and build new collaborative partnerships with VA officers, Departments of Homeless Services, Department of Veteran Services, local Continuums of Care, Coordinated entry point staff, and other community providers to coordinate referrals and service delivery.
  • Identify knowledge gaps among team members. Forecast potential problems and present solutions.
  • Work closely with Employment Coordinator to ensure that Veterans on Case Managers caseload are provided with viable Workforce Opportunities and job developments in order to increase/gain income.
  • Provide expertise and coaching in evidence based and other best practices such as Motivational Interviewing, Progressive engagement, Harm Reduction, and trauma informed care. Ensure staff are implementing these practices to enhance their engagement and intervention techniques. Provide insight and strategies to address any inefficiencies as it relates to adhering to the policy and procedures and Veteran assistance process.
  • Assist in the recruitment, selection, training and orientation of new employees;
  • Complete and maintain all required internal and external reports;
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by Director of Social Services

Qualifications

  • Must have a Master’s degree in Human Services and at least three years of managerial experience.
  • Must have experience working in homelessness, substance abuse, mental health and/or trauma settings (supervisory and/or management experience preferred).
  • Experience working with Veterans or other homeless populations preferred.
  • Knowledge of VA, HRA, Social Security, and other public benefits and housing vouchers, highly preferred
  • Must possess superior leadership, critical thinking, written, and verbal skills.
  • Excellent computer literacy including Microsoft Office, Google sheets, etc.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently in fast paced environment and multi-task in a timely fashion.
  • Must be detailed oriented and organized.

Working conditions

Special Working conditions may include: a change in days worked, shift hours, and/or working conditions (outdoors or other locations) when participating and assisting in special events such as: NYC Tunnel to Towers Run, golf outings, and other fundraising events, as required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
