JOB SUMMARY:
Tuff Automation is dedicated to the design and manufacture of custom heavy material handling systems for demanding industrial applications. We are considered the premier source for engineered-to-order roller conveyors, belt conveyors, lifts, and other high load material handling solutions that solve our customers’ most demanding problems. We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to become an integral part of our talented mechanical engineering team. A Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will develop and design mechanical systems, equipment, and components while coordinating project activities to ensure that project quality, cost, and timing meet expectations. This individual will also work in partnership with our talented production team of fabricators, electricians, and machine builders to create the toughest heavy material handling solutions on the market. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design custom heavy material handling solutions for manufacturing environments
Apply sound engineering principles to designs, offering clear justification for design decisions
Collaborate with Applications Engineer, Sales Engineer, and customer to understand requirements, goals, and constraints
Provide effective technical solutions that align with project objectives
Lead the coordination and communication with vendors to ensure the timely procurement of components
Work in partnership with the Sales Engineer to manage projects
Monitor project progress, assess risks, and proactively address challenges to maintain project schedules and budgets
Review and approve design documentation, change orders, and specifications to ensure accuracy and quality control
Utilize 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor) to create preliminary and detail drawings
Utilize ERP software (Total ETO) as a “single source of truth” to track project status
Update schedules, reports, and documents, based on revisions and other changes to project
Prepare operations manuals for equipment
Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and best practices in material handling and apply them to designs.
Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior engineers and interns in the mechanical engineering team.
Lead the mechanical engineering team when the Mechanical Engineering Manager is out of the office
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
7 years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on designing solutions for heavy industrial applications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience
Demonstrated success in managing complex mechanical engineering projects from concept to completion
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
Strong project management abilities, including the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple
projects concurrently
Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
Preference given to candidates who possess experience with custom material handling equipment design
Proficient with 3D CAD software, preference given for Autodesk Inventor
Ability to function well in a fast-paced and sometimes uncertain environment
