Job Description Summary

GE Aviation Systems Avionics Engineering is seeking a mid-career engineer interested in a mechanical engineering role to help us invent the future of flight, lift people up, and bring them home safely within our Platform Hardware organization. Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical design, interconnect evaluations, mechanical component selection, and tolerance stack-up analysis activities for avionics products.
  • Create mechanical models, drawings, and bills of material.
  • Perform thermal, stress, and vibration analyses and tests to ensure product compliance to environmental and operational requirements, and provide conclusive technical reports.
  • Perform design and work-product reviews.
  • Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), maintainability, and testability concepts.
  • Take part in design architectural trade studies and proposals.
  • Collaborate with customers to understand their needs.
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary design teams.
  • Create design concepts and budget estimates for bid and proposal activities.
  • Provide timely technical support to the production factory for root cause investigations.
  • Identify and implement creative improvements to department processes and tools.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 5 years' of professional experience in mechanical engineering.
  • US Person: This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Attention to detail.
  • Experience in packaging design for electronics assemblies.
  • Working knowledge and application experience in Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
  • Proficiency in model and drawing creation using Siemens NX.
  • Experience using Product Lifecycle Management systems (PTC Windchill).
  • Proficiency in vibration and thermal analysis using FEA tools.
  • Familiarity with aerospace standards, materials, and processes.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated structured problem solving skills.
  • Accountability and ownership.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
