Tucson Youth Development is Hiring a Principal Near Tucson, AZ

Principal

TYD is a nonprofit organization with a mission to equip Pima County youth to gain employment, achieve self-sufficiency and reach career potential through education and training. We are seeking a Principalto support our overall mission, focusing on the mission of our Schools- Alternative, rigorous, technology-enhanced instruction for "at-risk" youth leading to graduation and preparation for success beyond graduation.

Overview:

Working closely with the Executive Director, the School Principal shall provide leadership and management of the school focused on student learning and achievement, stakeholder relationships and communication, and efficient operations. They will be directly responsible for the daily administration of school procedures and activities and for supervising and evaluating matters pertaining to the school’s management. As Principal, they will attend TYD Leadership Team meetings and work collaboratively with the Local Education Agency (LEA) leadership to achieve the goals and objectives of the organizational mission and vision.

Job Duties:

  • Effectively lead all aspects of the operation of the school.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director and other Principal(s), develop the program of instructional studies consistent with the needs of the students, the school Governing Board priorities, and ADE mandates.'
  • Organize, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the total instructional program to ensure compliance with Arizona Department of Education (ADE), Arizona State Board for Charter Schools (ASBCS) mandates, and Cognia (formerly AdvancED) accreditation requirements.
  • Develop a culture conducive to learning and an environment that ensures the safety and welfare of the high school students, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Develop informational programs for all students, parents, and public constituencies and serve as initial contact with the community.
  • As an instructional leader, the Principal will work within the State of Arizona and Federal Elementary and Secondary Education (ESEA) compliance requirements to: a) Provide direction on curriculum and instruction; b) Use and promote the use of assessment data; c) Model and support professional growth for all students, staff, and faculty; and d) Focus on closing achievement gaps and assuring achievement for all students in grades 9-12. e) Ensure compliance with ADE and ASBCS attendance recording and reporting requirements.
  • Supervise the activities of advising, counseling, dropout prevention, ELL, Special/Exceptional Education, homeless youth, and other special service programs and staff.
  • Assign and supervise staff to record student academic and attendance data, report to parents and guardians, and follow up after initial enrollment inquiries.
  • Organize and conduct staff meetings to discuss student performance, review data, and plan accordingly.
  • Attend all Multi-Disciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) conferences when students are being considered for possible special education placement.
  • Collaborate with the Registrar/Office Manager to develop a master schedule, ensure all SAIS reporting is completed in compliance with ADE requirements, and provide all documentation for the annual internal audit.
  • Communicate all budgetary needs and submit a budget request to the Business Manager.
  • Prepare, present, and disseminate information about the school to the community.
  • Make recommendations to the Executive Director regarding modifications of established procedures or the creation of new products.
  • Prepare a calendar of school programs/activities and coordinate these needs with other TYD programs.
  • Develop handbooks for students and teachers.
  • Conduct the mandatory Title I Parent annual meeting.
  • Develop teacher work schedules.
  • Prepare for and coordinate all ADE and Cognia (formerly AdvancED) reviews and site visits, including Title I, School Improvement, Special Education, and re-accreditation.
  • Meet with and guide parents and students as appropriate.
  • Establish procedures and implement effective practices for managing student behavior during school hours and at all school activities.
  • Maintain standards of student behavior designed to encourage high expectations, motivate academic achievement, and demonstrate respect for self and others.
  • Organize and implement a system for improving attendance and student achievement based on data that leads to improved accountability.
  • Develop and implement a formalized student achievement recognition and incentive system in collaboration with faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Assure all procedures for identifying homeless youth are implemented and communicate to families and students the services that are available to homeless youth.
  • Personally participate and encourage staff participation in parent groups and other community groups to strengthen understanding and support for the school system.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in school management and administration.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in public school(s) classroom instruction.
  • Familiar with compliance and procedural mandates with ADE, ESEA, Exceptional Education, ELL and AdvancED, and Arizona State Board for Charter Schools (ASBCS).
  • Demonstrated experience writing and administering local, state, and federal grants, including Title I/IIA, School Improvement, and IDEA Basic Entitlement.
  • Proven ability to work with ethnic, academic, and developmental diversity.
  • Must possess/ be able to obtain a Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Desired Qualifications

  • Possess a valid Arizona Principal Certificate
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish). The ability to read and write Spanish – preferred
