Description

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

This position is responsible for performing all functions related to nuclear medicine stress testing under the supervision of the Physician including EKG lead placement and basic interpretation, monitoring of vital signs, patient preparation, to ensure the highest quality diagnostic services. Individuals in this position are responsible and accountable for the treatment of patients in Adult and Geriatric age groups.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Travel to various client sites as scheduled.
  • Preparation of patient for stress testing procedure, including patient interviews, obtaining medical history, obtaining patient consent and signatures, and conducting patient teaching related to nuclear imaging procedure including risks and possible complications.
  • Perform diagnostic stress tests per protocol including: Proper use and knowledge of the equipment, knowledge of pharmaceutical agents, monitoring blood pressure, correct placement of electrodes, monitoring of patient before, during and after tests.
  • Maintain emergency supplies and equipment for proper functioning. Perform daily and periodic safety checks, clean equipment and document all appropriately.
  • Maintain adequate testing supplies on a regular basis.
  • Maintain medical record documentation of patient status and services provided according to departmental procedures. Immediately report any significant conditions to the physician supervising the test. Initiate BLS measures and/or emergency care according to policy.
  • Maintain BLS certification and keep current with new procedures and drugs.
  • Treat all patients with courtesy, respect and concern while observing all policies regarding privacy and confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or referring Physician.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed at testing centers, hospitals, clinics and/or physician office setting with moderate to high patient volume. Technician must drive to and from the testing facility in all weather conditions. Travel may be extensive.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to stand for long periods of time, walking, stooping, turning and lifting up to 50 lbs.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE:

There is limited radiation exposure during nuclear medicine procedures when proper protocol is followed. Performance of clinical job duties has a reasonably anticipated risk factor of occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens or other infectious materials. Employees are required to use protective equipment.

Qualifications


  • Cardiovascular Technician Certification helpful
  • Ability to interpret EKG results
  • Valid Drivers license.
  • Must have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certification, ACLS preferred
  • EMT or Paramedic experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience with PCs, laser-jet printers, scanners, fax machines, email systems and common office machines.
  • Knowledge of Windows, MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Dedicated to providing and maintaining outstanding customer service to customers and patients while gaining their trust and respect.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality in all areas.
