Overview

The purpose of this job is to develop and enhance procedures in order to analyze, report, and project targeted areas of the bank’s loan portfolio. It will direct attention to areas warranting additional scrutiny due to related potential impacts to the bank’s asset quality measures, levels of reserves and provisioning needed, and capital ratios. It will also include development of comprehensive, formal reporting from which risk can be quantified and managed. This will include close coordination with Relationship Managers, Senior Credit Officers and the Chief Credit and Operations Officer to identify targeted areas for analysis and to conduct the same within time frames established by Executive Management. Additionally, the position is responsible for verification and balancing of all internal loan information used as well as that from 3rd party vendors that may be utilized in the reporting and analysis.

This position has a critical role in reporting and analysis of existing and emerging issues regarding the composition, direction, and quality of the bank’s loan portfolio and its potential resulting impact on overall credit quality, the allowance for credit losses, and capital and regulatory ratios. Analyses and summaries are provided directly to and discussed with the Chief Credit and Operations Officer. This is a solution-oriented position. The recommendations made by this position will be presented to senior/executive management for review and approval.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze the commercial real estate portfolio and its various components to provide information to Executive Management regarding the current status of the portfolio and emerging trends
  • Perform complex projections for the volume and composition of the commercial real estate (CRE) portfolio to ensure compliance with regulatory and internally established thresholds
  • Conduct preliminary analysis of the results of the CRE projection including a determination as to whether additional research/work is warranted for particular areas/borrowers or targets to ensure accuracy and completeness (considering all relevant factors) of final conclusions for that segment
  • Prepare the budget for the commercial real estate portfolio annually with direction provided by executive management
  • Assist with stress testing by working with Senior Credit Officers, Allowance for Credit Loss Department associates and Chief Credit and Operations Officer to establish targeted areas, objectives, and completion dates
  • Develop processes for selection of appropriate populations and sample sizes for stress testing and for annual CRE reviews
  • Manage documentation of departmental processes that are auditable including, but not limited to, CRE projections and descriptions of major departmental processes and workflows
  • Communicate with and present results to Senior and Executive Management
  • Prepare notes/recommendations to increase efficiency, accuracy, and completeness of future processes
  • Review of the work of other departmental associates for accuracy and completeness
  • Verification and balancing of all internal loan information used as well as reconciliation of the same to 3rd party vendors as needed
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • College degree required
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience in banking, accounting, audit, or business
  • Three (3) or more years of experience managing people and/or projects
  • Comfortable working with large amounts of data
  • Experience using specialized software
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory guidelines
  • Knowledge of common key measures of a loan portfolio
  • Ability to calculate financial data, ratios, and benchmarks
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • An understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting related to loans
  • Independent judgment
  • Strong time management skills
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft Office, notably Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong communication (oral and written) and presentation skills
  • Graduate level education preferred
  • College course of studies in statistics, computer science, business, or accounting preferred
  • Banking experience preferred but not necessary
