TruNorth Federal Credit Union is Hiring an Accounting Operations Manager Near Ishpeming, MI

TruNorth Federal Credit Union in Ishpeming, MI is seeking an Accounting Operations Manager to join their growing team. TruNorth Federal Credit Union is a $215 million credit union with 2 branch locations and over 40 employees. This is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Vice President-Finance, Operations & Human Resources. This position typically works an average of 40 hours per week. Flexible and hybrid scheduling to provide for work/life balance while ensuring all deadlines are met may be possible after proven ability to work independently.
The successful candidate for this position will lead and supervise a small team of operations assistants responsible for the back-office processing, to include but not limited to, ACH/draft posting and returns, ATM/debit and credit card ordering, card maintenance and dispute processing review, reconcile general ledger accounts, and providing excellent service to credit union members mainly via telephone. This position will also manage relationships with several external vendors, researching new potential vendors, and overseeing the project management to implement new features or upgrades.
The successful candidate for this position will initially work out of our main office in Ishpeming but may be expected to work out of our Marquette branch location, or split between locations, starting in Summer 2024. Location will be based on TruNorth business needs. 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of highly motivated and well-trained operations assistants to ensure the credit union’s professional image is maintained by delivering services efficiently, in a professional manner, and in compliance with existing regulations and policies.
  • Assist each member of the operations team in determining their daily priorities to ensure work is distributed fairly and completed timely while handling escalated and complex issues knowing when to bring them to the attention of a higher authority.
  • Schedule members of the operations team to ensure sufficient coverage and critical daily deadlines are met.
  • Participate in interviews to select quality applicants for vacancies in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and disciplinary matters by providing feedback on individual team members’ performance knowing when to seek guidance from Human Resources.
  • Coordinate the training schedule for new team members and ongoing training needs for the team.
  • Solicit feedback from team members regarding logistics and pain points to recommend process improvements and efficiencies for the operations team.
  • Represent the operations department in credit-union wide initiatives and committees.
  • Serve as a main point of contact for various external vendors and troubleshoot issues as they arise directly with vendors.
  • Keep current on operations related system upgrades or improvements by monitoring communication from various vendors assessing feasibility for credit union adoption.
  • Research and analyze various new external vendors making recommendations to improve products and services offered to members.
  • Oversee the project management for various upgrades and improvements to systems or processes.
  • Prepare various reports or analysis as requested by management.
  • Provide backup coverage for operations assistants ensuring critical daily deadlines are met.

Minimum Education: Associate’s degree in Accounting
Minimum Experience: Three years of experience leading a team and/or managing projects
Preferences: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or a related field
Supervisory or management experience
Experience in a financial institution
Compensation: Minimum $50,000 salary. Compensation is commensurate with qualifications/experience. Full benefit package including:
