BUILDING MAINTENANCE WORKER / HANDYMAN
Nationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Building Maintenance Worker, located in Harlem, NY.
JOB SUMMARY
Maintenance Worker will report directly to the Maintenance Supervisor. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. General repairs – minor plumbing, electrical and carpentry.
2. Taping and Spackling
3. Priming & Painting
4. General cleaning of the building and maintaining it in good condition.
5. Scrub, strip, sanitize, vacuum, wax, and buffs floors.
6. Clean and service restrooms.
7. Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
8. Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, mirrors, and doors.
9. Collect and dispose of trash.
10. Notify supervisors or managers of major repairs.
11. Complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
12. Remove snow from sidewalks using snow shovels and spread snow melting chemicals.
13. Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings.
14. Identify and report the need for major repairs.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of general building and grounds maintenance practices and procedures. Ability to learn by method of on-the-job training including ability to follow instructions. Ability to perform routine and minor repair and maintenance activities of buildings and grounds. Ability to use and maintain maintenance equipment and tools effectively and in a safe manner. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or G.E.D. and two years’ experience performing maintenance work in a general maintenance environment or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ABILITIES
This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. Frequently lifting and/or moving of items up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
