Description Function: The Prep Cook is responsible for supporting the cooks to ensure all product is ready for the next day, as well as maintaining the kitchen and ensuring it is clean and sanitized at the Caridad Community Kitchen for the Community Food Bank.
Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assists in food preparation tasks such as weighing out product according to bulk site needs.
  • Stages the food for next day home delivery portioning volunteers.
  • Follows standardized recipes and portion sizes to maintain consistency in food quality.
  • Responsible for setting up, running, and disassembling packaging machine.
  • Stores assembled and labeled food trays in freezer.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of workstations, including proper storage of food items and cleaning of equipment.
  • Adheres to food safety and sanitation guidelines to ensure compliance with health regulations.
  • Learns and develops basic cooking techniques and skills under the guidance of senior kitchen staff.
  • Follows instructions from supervisors and demonstrates a willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned .
Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of preparing food ingredients, such as weighing out product for bulk recipes needs.
  • Skills in following recipes and portion sizes to maintain consistency in food quality.
  • Ability to measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.
  • Ability to take direction, ask clarifying questions, and execute assignments.
  • Ability to handle interruptions, maintain a focus on tasks and produce timely and accurate work.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse economic, social, and political backgrounds.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • For company insurance purposes, at least 21 years of age; possess a current Arizona Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered if applicable and must be directly related to the functions and body of knowledge required to successfully perform the job.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) year of experience in a fast-paced, complex work environment demonstrating organizational and follow-through skills.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Physical Requirements
  • Heavy Work which involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. If someone can do heavy work, we determine that he or she can also do medium, light, and sedentary work.
