Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:
  • Organizes and maintains initial staff orientation and student training programs for the assigned Perioperative areas.
  • Provides ongoing opportunities for healthcare providers to acquire knowledge, skills and attitude through continuing education, in-services, self-study modules and provision of resources.
  • Helps to coordinate and organize continuous quality improvement program.
  • Incorporates legal and ethical issues into educational activities and policy procedure development.
  • Communicates directly with managers and physicians to enhance awareness of constraints and controls affecting the health care environment.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Colleague must have an RN license, as defined by their primary work state (Idaho or Oregon), issued prior to hire date.
  • Those colleagues hired before July 1, 2019 must provide licensure in their secondary state within six months of July 1, 2019.
  • Individuals hired in this role after July 1, 2019, must provide licensure in their secondary state within six months of hire.
  • Colleague will ensure he/she does not perform nursing care in the secondary state until the secondary licensure is received and properly documented by SAHS Human Resources Department.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or actively enrolled required.
  • Professional certification (CNOR for Surgical Educator, ASPAN for Pre/Post Educator), ACLS preferred.
  • Three years of direct patient care experience in the role of a registered nurse required.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers certification from either AHA, ARC or the Military Training Network is required at hire in all units, unless currently certified in ACLS and/or PALS as defined in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.
  • Other certifications may be required as identified in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.
  • Five years of Perioperative experience preferred.
  • Experience as a Perioperative Nurse Educator or one year in coordinating continuing education preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
  • Utilizing Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations standards, develops, implements and conducts orientation programs for assigned staff in Perioperative services.
  • Develops, implements and coordinates all mandatory, continuing education and new product in-service programs for Perioperative Services.
  • Helps to coordinate and organize Continuous Quality Improvement processes within the Perioperative Services environment.
  • Coordinates and organizes Perioperative Preceptor program.
  • Systematically plans and evaluates the overall staff development program in response to healthcare trends, learning needs and organizational goals.
  • Prepares and evaluates initial competency assessments for new associates. Identifies Perioperative learning needs and coordinates educational programs to meet the identified needs.
  • Coordinates and organizes educational opportunities with students in the Perioperative environment.
  • Functions as the Perioperative Services liaison to the Clinical Education department.
