TITLE: Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour Manager 

TYPE: Full-time: 40 hours/week, non-exempt, regular employee

LOCATION: Nevada City, CA

REPORTS TO: Festival Director

Job Description

The On Tour Manager leads and manages SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour (“On Tour”) program. The On Tour program partners with hosts to produce their own festival, so WSFF staff does not travel to the events. Since 2005, On Tour provides a turn-key fundraiser, membership drive, and awareness-building event to other organizations offering a selection of films from SYRCL’s annual flagship Wild & Scenic Film Festival held in Nevada City and Grass Valley CA. The On Tour program is a major source of funding for the South Yuba River Citizens League’s (SYRCL) river conservation work. SYRCL’s On Tour Manager has proven experience to sell this growing program to returning hosts and expanding its reach to new hosts. The On Tour Manager takes the initiative, enjoys the challenge of nationwide sales, is passionate about the environment, works hard in a fast-paced workday, and enjoys working collaboratively with a team.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Develops program, budgets, and aggressive On Tour sales goals with the Festival Director.
  • Expands reach of On Tour Program including:
  • Research new markets and solicit new hosts while retaining and maintaining relationships with existing venues.
  • Books events in all 50 states.
  • Develops new partner program models, e.g., corporate and college/university.
  • Manages contract negotiations, invoicing, post-event evaluation summary, film royalties, host retention, and other administrative tasks.
  • Gives input on annual On Tour films and curated film programs as requested.
  • Ensure development of and updates to On Tour marketing materials including brochures, flyers, digital materials, etc.
  • Develops annual film selection resources with On Tour coordinator.
  • Serves as a key staff in the production of the February “flagship” festival and other Wild & Scenic “off-season” events. Supports other year-round SYRCL events (if local).
  • Prepare weekly team meeting sales reports, monthly program report for the board of directors, bi-monthly reports for national partners; semi-annual reports for grantor; and annual program report.
  • Ability to get along and work effectively with others.
  • Must be willing and able to work hours conducive to successfully managing East and West coast accounts during their standard business hours.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for industry events such as conferences, other festivals, etc. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Assists in supervision of employees in the Wild & Scenic On Tour department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's needs, policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Role Qualifications

  • Detail-oriented with superior customer service, sales experience, event production experience, excellent phone manners, and organizational skills. 
  • Demonstrates initiative, is conscientious, accountable, and provides follow-through on areas of responsibility. 
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills. 
  • Experience working in a high-energy office setting; non-profit work experience a plus. 
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff and volunteers. 
  • Computer skills required, including proficiency with Word and Excel. Adobe Creative Cloud a plus. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree or substantial equivalent work experience in similar roles required. 
  • Positive, self-motivated, and quick learning performer highly valued. 
  • This position requires confidentiality, and a sense of humor is a must. 
  • Complex reading and writing, clerical, confidentiality, math skills, good judgment, and decision-making. 

Physical Requirements

  • Able to work on a computer for up to 8 hours a day and sit at a desk for extended periods; to read a computer screen and manual dexterity to operate a keyboard. 
  • Able to speak clearly on the phone and in person and be understood by others. 
  • Able to occasionally lift objects weighing up to 30-40 pounds. 

COMPENSATION:

The compensation package includes an hourly pay rate range of $26 - $28 per hour, depending on experience, starting paid vacation of 14 days per year earned on an accrual basis, 10 paid holidays, 5 paid sick days, 100% employer paid health/dental/vision insurance, and 2% 401(k) retirement match (fully vested after 3 years).
