POSITION SUMMARY:

Looking for a Mechanical Engineer seeking fun, fast-paced life of finding technical solutions to our customers problems. Needs to be highly motivated and outgoing. The position will include travel to customer sites and provide amazing opportunities to utilize innovation and custom design to tailor to the customer’s needs. With limited supervision, the Mechanical Engineer is responsible for developing custom equipment concepts, writing technical proposals, creating quotes and interfacing with Tri Tool’s customers. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and have a veracious drive for learning and professional growth. This is a full-time position within the engineering department and is based at the Headquarters in Rancho Cordova, CA.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

* Support business development activities in coordination with salespersons, including:

o Joining salespersons on sales calls, via telecon and physical travel to customer site.

o Fielding support inquiries and requests directly from customers on active projects.

o Assisting in market research and canvas of new potential customers.

o Assisting in the live or virtual demonstration of equipment, particularly in opportunities involving higher level of technical content.

* Development of conceptual proposals, including Solidworks models/layout drawings and written technical proposals.

o Development activities include collaborative efforts with the customers, onsite attendance of customer meetings/design reviews (as much as practical) 

* Technical liaison between Service Dept TSMs and the Engineering Dept, as well as the outside sales account managers and the Engineering Dept. This may include the following types of support (but not limited to):

o Equipment layouts, CAD checks for application fitness

o Researching equipment capabilities

o Providing technical feedback and mentorship of others

* Anticipated level of travel:

o Within short flight travel (1-2 days overnight): Up to 20%

* Collaborate and strategize with colleagues in the engineering, production/manufacturing, product management, service, and repair departments to solve problems and develop innovative world-class products.

Complete manufacturing and assembly mechanical drawings, tolerance analysis/stack-ups, and other documentation per ASME Y14.5M standards using SolidWorks CAD software.

Design and drafting of mechanical tools, fixtures, and machine components and subassemblies.

Assigned projects involve the following key areas: bill of materials structure, materials selection, strength of materials, static thermodynamic conditions and environments, metal plating and coatings, assembly and joining hardware, various manufacturing processes, and specification of required tolerances with manufacturing cost in mind.

Electromechanical system design and specification (AC and DC motors, servo motors, solenoids, actuators).

Pneumatic and hydraulic system design and specification with cylinders, actuators, valves, regulators, hoses, and fittings.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum five (5) years of applicable professional experience in mechanical design, drafting, fabrication, assembly, and testing of mechanical tools or systems. Master’s level engineering degree completion and three (3) or more years of applicable professional experience may be considered.
  • Prior experience using SolidWorks or other 3D CAD and drafting tools is required.
  • Knowledgeable of GD&T tolerancing methods and their appropriate application.
  • High level of attention to detail and completeness of work.
  • A tenacious attitude and drive to deliver results within schedule. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Part design for Additive Manufacturing
  • Machine and tool design for portable and/or in situ industrial tool industries
  • CNC machine and mechanism design
  • Design of consumable metal cutting tools, such as endmills, indexable inserts and holders, turning tools, etc.
  • Design of custom industrial equipment and tools

 EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • Master’s Degree preferred. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to lift/move up to 50 pounds without assistance; Lifting/Moving anything over 50 pounds must be assisted. Must be able to wear safety equipment as required for personal protection. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; stand; stoop; squat; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to safely use hand tools, power tools, and engineering product. Must be able to use office equipment such as computers, multi-line phones, scanners, copiers, and paper cutters.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily conducted in a semi-private office/cubicle setting but also may require off site field work. The noise level is mild in the office. Occasional travel to other company facilities or client locations required. 

Duties may require interaction or work in a shop/plant atmosphere. The production or shop/plant environment may have a moderate to loud noise level and requires use of Personal Protective Equipment.
Interaction with other employees, as well as supervisors, and client personnel. Employees may be required to work in excess of 8 hours in a day and/or 40 hours per week.
