Qualifications: DESE Special Education Certification and Administration Certification

Goal: To establish and maintain sound educational programs for preschool children and children requiring at least a partially different program/services from the regular classroom

Reports to: Superintendent

Responsibilities:

• Execute all policies, rules and regulations adopted by the Board
• Cooperate with agencies and institutions
• Recommend candidates for special education employment
• Supervise paraprofessional and preschool employees
• Hire, manage, train and evaluation special education and preschool staff
• Attend all appropriate meetings
• Make decisions for the best interest of the District and within Board Policies and CSIP objectives
• Maintain a permanent inventory of special education and preschool supplies and equipment
• Initiate, design and implement preschool and special education programs to meet student needs
• Keep informed of legal requires governing special education
• Establish and maintain remedial programs to supplement regular instruction for students and learning or physical (such as vision/hearing) disabilities
• Establish and maintain procedures for referral, securing medical reports, examinations and placement of special education students
• Organize and conduct kindergarten/preschool screenings
• Work cooperatively with Parents as Teachers educator
• Supervise maintenance of and complete all required records/reports/legal documents
• Keep informed of special education and preschool education funding
• Communicate with parents through a variety of means
• Promote positive relations between the building, District Board and community
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Terms of Employment: Contract to be established by the Board – Generally 10 months

Evaluation: Annually by the Superintendent in accordance with Board policy

A criminal fingerprint/background clearance is required.
