Overview

Senior System Protection Engineer

To meet growing demand, the System Protection & Automation Engineering group within the Power Sector at TRC is seeking aSenior System Protection Engineer(Engineer III) to work closely with a diverse team of System Protection and Automation & Integration engineers on distribution protection projects for utility and municipal clients across the country.

Successful applicant will be responsible for fault analysis, developing relay settings and related documentation for protective relays and control IEDs. Expected to follow client requirements and internal company quality control and quality assurance practices.

Expected to serve as the interface with clients, other company departments, outside consultants, contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers on technically related matters. Expected to serve as engineering lead or technical reviewer on assigned projects. Candidate will be responsible for working closely with other engineering and project management team members to coordinate overall project deliverables and be responsible for helping maintain project budgets and schedules.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Responsible for power systems analysis, fault current analysis, protection coordination, protective relay settings and documentation development and review and settings and configuration for distribution controllers and equipment.
  • Evaluate equipment specifications and application of new equipment based on customer and industry standards.
  • Familar with Primary Distribution Equipment
  • Development of protection standards and templates for customer use.
  • Develop custom logic and control schemes.
  • Provide oversight of all aspects of critical electrical infrastructure.
  • Prepares and/or reviews project scopes and concepts.
  • Performs checking on projects for accuracy and completeness.
  • Serve as engineering lead on assigned projects.
  • Promote efficient flow of information and ensure complete and accurate record keeping.
  • Responsible for effective project planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
  • Ensure the effective technical support of department needs and requirements.
  • Represent the company and its clients on technical matters.
  • Assist field personnel during testing and commissioning, answering questions and ensuring the test results are acceptable.
  • Travel is Optional for this postion.
Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer or EIT preferred
  • 5 or more years of electrical engineering experience in relay settings is required, experience in distribution engineering preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of distribution protection
  • Experience with ASPEN, CYME, AcSELerator Quickset and other similar distribution protection and control software required.
