THE OPPORTUNITY 

Position Summary:

Manages and guides distribution center operations activities, including receiving, warehousing, shipping, delivery, customer quality, and product inventory accuracy in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectives. Additionally responsible for site execution of growth initiatives including but not limited to software development, new product line launch and automation projects. This function is also responsible for efforts to ensure the distribution center maintains a culture that encompasses Transtar’s core values and team member development. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Directs all Operations activities and teammates 
  • Leads Mission Vision Value communications and objectives to drive company culture
  • Provides proactive feedback to Supervisors, initiating management coaching, teammate performance feedback, individual performance feedback, and corrective actions where needed.
  • Full responsibility for P&L and financial KPI
  • Facilities management and all associated responsibilities (dealing with landlords, security, landscaping, etc..)
  • Warehouse Management System implementation, master data management, and on-going success.
  • Identifying and executing Continuous improvement projects and lean initiatives to support growth and advancement opportunities as well as streamlining existing processes
  • Works with Operations leadership to develop and execute initiatives to improve DC KPIs that drive financial performance.
  • Reviews and approves appropriate DC or functions’ expenses, and makes capital recommendations where appropriate.
  • Develops and Leads the achievement of DC or functional Key Performance Indicators in the areas of Safety, Quality, Productivity, Turnover and growth and development. When KPIs miss, works to find root causes of the shortfall and implements countermeasures to prevent future miss. 
  • Participates in customer service for the DC or functions, resolving issues relating to service quality, pick pack and ship requirements, and deliveries. Coordinates with corporate operations and sales as needed.
  • Assists with functions of the finance/purchasing departments including resolving receipt and payable variances, auditing, cost reduction/ avoidance efforts and core management
  • Participates as needed in all functional projects that have impact to DC operations or customer order fulfillment
  • Enforces DC adherence to company developed SOP’s for all areas including warehouse management, transportation and workflows. 
  • Create and implement programs to standardize daily work as well as support growth and development initiatives such as 5S, cross training, workflow management, inventory storage optimization and employee engagement and recognition.
  • Monitors and reports performance of DC or functions, implementing root cause analysis to consistently work towards improving teammate relations, customer quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Oversees DC or functions’ succession planning, identifying, attracting, developing, coaching, and retaining talent.
  • Managing facility safety and compliance, in conjunction with Director of Safety, to all organizational safety programs and requirements. Promote workplace safety by assuring universal precautions and safe work practices are used, assure fire/safety/disaster plans are established and communicated to all department personnel, participate in risk management assessments, maintain security and/or correct unsafe working conditions, and equipment repair, and maintenance needs.
  • Ensures adherence to all regulatory requirements regarding hazardous material, storage requirements and reporting agencies (example: EPA, OSHA, etc.). Acts as the Designated Representative (DR) for the DC where required by licensing and compliance laws / regulations.

• Supervise assigned team members, including providing department and/or project orientation, and day-to-day guidance.

• Make recommendations regarding employment, performance appraisals, salary changes, promotions, and transfers for team members reporting to you.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma and 15 years or more of professional supply chain or distribution warehouse operations experience, including warehouse management experience.
  • Or Bachelor’s degree preferred with 9 or more years of professional supply chain or distribution warehouse operations experience, including warehouse management experience, preferably within the automotive parts industry 
  • Previous supervisory, leadership, planning, communication, organization, and people motivation experience required
  • Or any combination of relevant education and experience to meet the above requirements
  • Forklift Trained/Certified, or willing to be certified to train others.
  • Green Belt Six Sigma preferred
  • WMS software, advanced metrics tracking capabilities

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Excellent computer skills with the ability to navigate the ERP/WMS system and able to handle excel functions like pivot tables, pivot charts, and vlookup formulas
  • In depth knowledge of supply chain management, logistics, distribution, and/or warehouse management best practices.
  • Strong financial acumen including prior profit and loss responsibilities.
  • Ability to work fast and effectively within a matrix environment must be highly organized, detailed orientated, and have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills with an ability to lead, coach and mentor all levels of teammates.
  • Proven team-building skills, both internal and external, with the ability to motivate and direct the work of others.
  • Exceptional customer relationship skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to influence senior level management.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to direct large complex initiatives across a broad network and ensure completion.
  • Proven ability to analyze and conclude; ability to Continuous Improvement methodologies and to standardize processes across multiple sites and functions.
  • Ability to lead and drive change among peers and direct reports.
  • Competency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Adobe, Power Point, Power BI, Outlook)

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

This individual will be working in a Distribution Center/Warehouse environment, collaborating with team members, vendors, and other Managers within the facility. Depending on assigned location, the facility is shared with Sales Team and other business entities of the Company.

Open to travel requirements as needed (5-10% possible)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The individual is regularly required to sit, stand or walk 8 hours or more in a day. The individual is occasionally required to use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel; climb; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; push or pull, and reach with hands and arms. The individual must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
