Transitions LifeCare is Hiring a Medical Coder, Full-time Near Raleigh, NC

Job Summary
This position is responsible for reviewing medical records in order to accurately assign ICD-10 codes for Hospice and Palliative Care. The Medical Coder is instrumental in communicating billing and coding regulations and updates to Transitions LifeCare employees. The schedule for this position is 40 hours per week; minimal weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities what you do
  • Review, analyze, and abstract provider documentation in order to assign accurate ICD-10 and E/M CPT codes for Hospice and Palliative Care
  • Query providers when documentation is insufficient or unclear
  • Provide guidance and training to agency providers on diagnoses specificity and E/M billing
  • Utilize a variety of software programs (e.g. Allscripts/Netsmart, My Unity, Gerhimed, Epic, MS Office, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

  • Comply with Coding and Billing standards, guidelines, and conventions as set forth by AMA
  • Comply with Medicare and Medicaid guidelines
  • Comply with Palliative Care standards
Requirements what you need
  • Two-year associates degree in Medical Coding preferred
  • Certification as a Coding Specialist (CCS) or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-2 years of medical coding experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Must possess good organizational skills and be able to work independently.
  • While this position is remote, must still be able to enter, travel, and function in the workplace as appropriate to the need.
  • Must have sensory abilities to complete communication and documentation requirements of the job.
  • May be required to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • May be required to sit at a computer monitor and use repetitive motor techniques for prolonged periods of time.
  • Experience using computer patient information systems Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, etc) is required.
