Transformational Choices Holistic Therapy & Counseling is Hiring a Medical Billing Specialist Near Plymouth, MI

Our large clinical mental health therapy & counseling practice is seeking an experienced Medical Biller to join our administrative team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical billing. This position is in-person and is located at our main office in Plymouth, Michigan. The Billing Specialist, as a member of the Administrative Team, manages the claims process, including accurate and timely claim creation, follow-up and correspondence with providers, and insurance inquiries/correspondence. The position will assist in the clarification and development of process improvements and inquiries, assure payments related to patient services from all sources are recorded and reconciled timely in order to maximize revenues.

Other important duties include credentialing, responding to records requests, enrollment processing, and reporting. The position also requires occasional travel between clinical offices throughout southeast Michigan (Ann Arbor, Chelsea, Monroe, Southfield, Plymouth, Commerce Township).

Job Duties

  • Verify coverage and eligibility for medical services
  • Communicate with insurance companies regarding patient coverage
  • Review patient bills and correct any missing or inaccurate information
  • Use a billing software to prepare and transmit claims
  • Collect unpaid claims and clear up discrepancies
  • Investigate and appeal claims that were denied
  • Complete data entry to update spreadsheets and reports
  • Work with patients to set up payment plans
  • Adapt to updates and changes in billing software
  • Communicate professionally and collaboratively with providers
  • Occasional travel to other clinical offices (Ann Arbor, Chelsea, Monroe, Southfield, Plymouth)
  • Front desk reception duties as needed
  • Interface with clients as needed, in person, by telephone, or electronically to welcome clients, collect payments, answer questions, and assist as needed

Position Responsibilities:

  • Billing and Claims – Prepares and submits claims either electronically or by paper. Coordinate the process of patient eligibility through various third-party sources. Coordinate collection process. Manage monthly statement process, to include reviewing statements before mailing and field any patient inquiries. Work with clinical staff to ensure appropriate collection of co-pay, deductibles, and self-pay fees. Handle patient inquiries and answer questions from staff and insurance companies. Identify and resolve patient billing problems. Denial and insurance follow-up management. Issue adjusted, corrected, and/or rebilled claims. Assure coding is compliant and up to date. Review accounts and make recommendations to Business Manager regarding non-collectible accounts. Maintain strictest confidentiality; adhere to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
  • Credentialing – Maintain up-to-date credentials for each licensed provider, including verification through primary and secondary sources, records, and relay credentialing information to relevant personnel as needed. Keeps accurate records of provider licensure/certification renewals. Coordinate provider enrollments in all commercial, state and federal insurance programs. Correspond with and provide updates to insurances.

Experience:

  • Previous medical billing experience including knowledge of billing related reporting; experience in health-care billing & collection practices, preferred
  • Experience working with medical insurance providers, preferred
  • Working knowledge of medical billing systems, preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proficiency in technology

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour starting wage based on experience.

Earned APL (All Purpose Leave) is available. Health benefits (including dental and vision coverage) are available 30 days after the start of employment if minimum work hours are met, with employer contribution of 100% for employee only for those who work more than an average of 30 hours per week.
