Summary of Position

TPM Group is seeking an experienced Assistant Construction Project Manager to control the time, cost and quality of major construction projects from beginning to end for local government client projects. The successful candidate will assist the Project Manager in planning and coordinating all aspects of the construction process, including hiring contractors and working with engineers, architects and vendors. project oversight for the design and development of a major sanitation transfer station for a major public works agency. The APM will have the following responsibilities:

• Will be expected to provide day-to-day project management leadership for a large $100-$150 Million project for DPW. The project is for the design and development of a new Benning Road Transfer Station (BRTS), Current transfer station operations include recycling, trash, household hazardous waste, white goods, bulk, e-recycling, leaf storage, and citizen drop-off services. The BRTS is currently closed and requires demolition, remediation, and reconstruction of a new, modernized zero-waste campus.
• All manner of customary Pre-construction, Construction and Close-Out project management activities.

The Assistant Construction Project Manager will handle both administrative and hands-on work while managing construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers, architects, etc. to determine the specifications of projects.
• Negotiate contracts with external vendors to reach profitable agreements.
• Obtain permits and licenses from appropriate agencies.
• Determine needed resources (manpower, equipment and materials) from start to finish with attention to budgetary limitations.
• Plan all construction operations and schedule intermediate phases to ensure deadlines will be met.
• Acquire equipment and material and monitor stocks to timely handle inadequacies.
• Hire contractors and other staff and allocate responsibilities.
• Supervise the work of all construction laborers.
• Evaluate progress and prepare detailed reports.
• Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards and report issues.

Requirements

• Minimum five (5) years proven experience as construction project manager
• Experience with schools/educational projects a plus
• Ability to read structural drawings and plan sets
• Advanced understanding of risk management policies and procedures
• Extensive experience managing budgets for large and small construction projects
• Strong knowledge of construction materials, processes and equipment
• Outstanding communication and negotiation skills
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills
• BSc/BA in engineering, building science or relevant field or comparable experience
• PMP or equivalent certification will be an advantage

Salary

$80,000 - $100,000, Commensurate with experience.
