Townsend Building Supply, a leading supplier of lumber and building materials in the Wiregrass area, is seeking a 2nd Shift Plant Foreman for our truss manufacturing facility. The Truss Plant Foreman is responsible for supervision of truss plant production and personnel assigned to the truss plant. The Foreman must ensure that all safety rules and regulations are followed and that the truss plant is operating in an efficient and effective manner.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide oversight, leadership, and support to truss plant personnel in order to ensure successful daily operation of the truss plant and achievement of productivity goals.
  • Batch and organize each job to be cut and built in the most efficient way possible.
  • Oversee the entire truss production procedure. This includes the organization of production employees for each job, quality control, and securing loads for delivery.
  • Oversee the packaging and loading of customer orders on trucks to prevent breakage of truss parts. Check contents of truss packages against customer orders to assure accurateness of deliveries.
  • Assist with inventory management and monitor inventory levels of lumber and truss plates to assure uninterrupted production of trusses.
  • Delegate specific assignments to truss plant employees to ensure completion of tasks in a timely manner.
  • Perform duties essential to professionally complete each truss assembly project; including but not limited to, placing connector plate at each truss joint by hammering in place, rolling a machine over the truss to embed the connector plate, send the truss through the finish press, and then move each assembled truss to the yard for delivery preparation.
  • Examine material prior to assembly to make sure defective lumber is not included in any of the manufacturing of our trusses.
  • Run a component saw and laser projection system for the truss table.
  • Operate a roof gantry press, finished truss rollers or conveyor, and finishing press.
  • Mark materials with identifying information using appropriate method.
  • Check materials and finished products to ensure they are compliant with standards.
  • Pick and pull production material as needed.
  • Maintain production records as required.
  • Maintain, perform routine inspection, and troubleshoot issues on truss production equipment and refer defects or needed repairs to the Truss Plant Manager.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Qualifications of the ideal candidate include:

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • At least two years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Working knowledge of construction and tools.
  • Self-starter with strong initiative.
  • Must be detail oriented and highly accurate.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to perform manual labor
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Must be computer literate and familiar current office technology
  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate employees
  • Dedication to safety
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, and stoop for long periods of time
  • Must be able to pass background and drug screens
