Town of Windsor is Hiring an Assistant Track Coach Near Windsor, CO

Hiring Range: The base/starting wage for this position is $15.63 per hour, which increases based on years of service/experience.
Work Schedule: Varies (weekdays, weekends, mornings, evenings) May – July 
NATURE OF WORK
As a member of the Parks, Recreation, and Culture Division, individuals in this position are responsible for assisting the Head Coach with the planning, organization, and supervision of the Track program for participants 8 to 18 years of age. Work is performed in accordance with standard practice and methods requiring initiative to complete recurring assignments independently and sound judgment to determine which methods are applicable in any given situation. Finished work is reviewed for accuracy, quality, and completeness. Unfamiliar situations are referred to the supervisor.
 
This temporary employment may be scheduled through the year on a full-time basis depending on the needs of the town but will not exceed six months in length (or 1,040 hours, whichever comes first). This is strictly temporary employment.
 
Please note that town employees (including seasonal employees) may only be employed in one classification at any one given time.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Individuals work under the direct supervision/leadership of the Track Head Coach to carry out assigned duties, functions, roles, and projects in both routine and complex circumstances. Individuals report directly to the Recreation Coordinator.
SUPERVISION/LEADERSHIP EXERCISED
No supervisory responsibilities or control exercised.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The individual in the Assistant Coach role is assigned specific assignments, job duties, scope, authority, responsibility, roles and requirements as determined by the town, department, division, and pursuant to laws, regulation and practices. Individuals in this position must be able to successfully perform, be responsible for, and/or assist in the fulfillment of many job functions and duties, with or without reasonable accommodation.
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive:
  • Assists with designing and implementing practices, workouts and training.
  • Assists with setting up and taking down equipment.
  • Assists with instructing track skills to participants of various levels
  • Creates an enjoyable experience for participants of program while teaching fundamentals of sport or activity. Ensures that all participants have an opportunity to participate in program.
  • Exercises and teaches safety awareness and practices for skills and program. Ensures all possible safety measures are observed
  • Communicates with participants, parents, co-workers, and supervisor to improve success of program and address any concerns.
  • Provide regular feedback and program evaluation to Head Coach and/or Recreation Coordinator. Discusses concerns and makes recommendations for program improvements including content, marketing efforts, scheduling, etc.
  • Cleans and maintains surrounding program area (to include trash pickup and set-up and take down of equipment) before and after each program.
  • Identifies and reports any hazards in a timely manner.
  • Provides excellent customer service, including interacting with participants and/or parents to answer questions and resolve problems.
  • Responds to emergency situations as required; maintains and forwards accurate accident and incident reports to supervisor.
  • Reports any issues and concerns to supervisor.
  • Attends trainings and meetings as required.
  • Complies with town and departmental rules and regulations, polices, and procedures.
  • May act in Head Coach’s absence.
  • May be required to work weekends and holidays.
  • Ensures safety regulations and procedures are adhered to.
  • Performs related work as required and assigned.
OTHER DUTIES
Depending on organizational need, additional duties may include the following:
  • Performs research as directed, such as discovering new technology or tools, market research, etc.
  • Performs related duties as established by law/ordinance or reasonably directed by the town.
  • Assists other town departments, as necessary.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND FORMAL TRAINING
  • Must be at least 14 years of age
  • Minimum one (1) season of track experience or participation with general knowledge of the fundamentals of rules and sport
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
  • Current CPR and 1st Aide certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
  • Current Concussion training certification, or ability to obtain by date of employment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Ability to performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid activities
  • Ability toinstructing and demonstrating track skills to participants of all abilities
  • Knowledgeof the sport of track and coaching track to participants of all abilities
  • Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the Town of Windsor and the department.
  • Skill in the safe and lawful operation of a motor vehicle if / when driving is required of the position
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations.
  • Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically and emotionally stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, clearly and effectively with people inside and outside the organization using verbal and written methods.
  • Ability to perform the necessary functions of the position and to make appropriate decisions consistent with the job expectations and position description.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to handle reasonably necessary stress.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety rules and practices.

Materials and equipment used include, but may not be limited to the following:
  • Equipment: Position requires the use of a variety of equipment: Basic track equipment, EZ-Up tents, leaf blower, broom, court squeegee, computers, tablets or other digital equipment, digital cameras, copiers, printers, scanners, fax machines, telephones.
