Town of Vienna is Hiring a Network Support Technician Near Vienna, VA

The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform professional, technical, and administrative work in support of the Town’s Information Technology systems, including the Police Department’s Communications Center.
Qualified applicants must have the ability to perform all of the following: communicate effectively; read and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence; write clearly and concisely; deliver effective training presentations in both one-on-one and small group situations to employees; possess a general knowledge of IT practices and procedures. Time management and organizational skills are required, as well as the ability to interact with customers courteously, respectfully, and cordially.
 
Qualified applicant must be able to use critical thinking to assess, analyze, and troubleshoot hardware and software tasks with minimal supervision and must be able to communicate status updates promptly.
This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Work Schedule:
 Monday through Friday 10:00AM - 7:00 PM

All new employees must satisfactorily complete a background check. A conditional offer of employment may then be made contingent upon the successful completion of a drug test. 

This position requires work on-site and is not a tele-commuting position.This is a Non-Exempt Position

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Essential Functions:

To support the Network Administrator with planning, installing, and maintaining all departmental communications and information technology equipment; installs, configures, reviews, and transfers data to new computers, peripherals, applications, and servers; installs hardware/software and maintains services contracts with vendors; manages data connectivity for mobile units and regional information sharing.

Manage and administers computer and server update services; coordinate and deploy monthly security updates and patches; provide setup and troubleshooting support for Windows Computer and Server applications.

Repairs, maintains and troubleshoots staff computer hardware and software and peripheral equipment; monitors data backups and restorations as needed and in coordination with the IT team. Provides user support, training and assistance. Sets up and configures work stations, installs department specific software, troubleshoots issues, troubleshoots and removes spyware and viruses. Monitors, maintains and assists with installs of network infrastructure including Ethernet and fiber connectivity. Provides technical support for council and other meetings; for Tyler Munis financial systems, County Courts system; parks Wi-Fi services; portable points of sale; and public safety technical emergencies.

Administers departmental standards and procedures for the use of the communications and information technologies systems; maintains all information systems data required for the effective day-to-day operations of departmental systems and the coordinating state/local communication/information technology systems.

Responds to email, telephone, and Help Desk System requests related to computer applications including requests for new service, connection issues, password resets, and other miscellaneous tasks; escalates to other IT team members. Supports Town Staff and the Police Department.

Configures Cisco phones using Cisco Call Manager; issues Axis camera permission and access; creates user accounts and emails in Microsoft Exchange; maintains user account access and network resources permission.

Develops, maintains and upgrades Town Intranet site as necessary; updates Town extranet site as assigned.

Researches, evaluates and recommends purchase of computer systems and components; assess needs and provides justification for purchases. Prepares quotes and purchase orders for approval; orders hardware and software based on departmental needs. Maintains knowledge of working and current technology to determine what is needed to support the network systems.

Supports and troubleshoots Police servers Axon (In Car and Body Camera) Video, LiveScan, Police Badge ID cards, departmental video security systems; New World Records Management CAD/RMS mapping; supervises and manages camera systems for mug shots; Public Safety Radio System, and Virginia State Police ISP connections.

Communicate the status of tasks and or projects in a prompt, reliable, and consistent manner.

Produces and maintain various types of written reports for various types of items such as inventories, managing trouble tickets, event logs, and equipment assignments.

Reviews application and event logs when troubleshooting issues. Perform fixes and or contact the appropriate support vendor(s) for assistance.

Establishes and maintains working relationships with Town officials, public officials, associates, contractors, and other regional jurisdictional technical management personnel; coordinates and supervises technical projects and activities with other regional jurisdictions. 

Additional Duties:

Creates ID badges and maintains ID production equipment.

Manages Virtual Meeting applications and provides coordination and support of nightly meetings for Town Council and Boards and Commissions. To also provide occasional after hour support for upgrades and installations of emergency support of any technical issues or outages.

Develops and administers asset life-cycle inventory.

Prepares and processes a variety of documentation annually and as otherwise required.

Prepares documentation for various systems training; receives written incident reports, automated reports, and contractor status reports.

Performs related work as assigned.

Communications Requirements:

Communications involves the ability to read, write, and speak.

Reads journals, manuals and professional publications; speaks informally to groups of co-workers, staff in other organizational agencies, general public, people in other organizations and presents training; composes original reports, training and other written materials, using proper language, punctuation, grammar and style.

Judgment Requirements:

Judgment requirements refer to the frequency and complexity of judgments and decisions given the stability of the work environments, the nature and type of guidance, and the breadth of impact of the judgments and decisions.

Decision-making is a significant part of the job, affecting a large segment of the organization and the public; works in a dynamic environment, responsible to assist in developing policies and practices.

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

Equipment Usage:

Equipment usage involves responsibility for materials, machines, tools, equipment, work aids, and products.

Establishes methods and procedures for acquiring and handling of machines, tools, equipment or work aids involving extensive latitude for judgment regarding attainment of a standard or in selecting appropriate items.

Requires an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or specialized courses/training equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college in Information Technology, Computer Science or closely related area.

Requires four years full time troubleshooting and maintaining computers, testing software and equipment, or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

A , NETPLUS, MCSA, or MCSE or equivalent related work is preferred.

Must be eligible to obtain VCIN (Virginia Crime Information Network) Level B Certification within 12 months of employment.
