Basic Function: The Crew Leader is responsible for coordinating, scheduling, analyzing, and participating in the maintenance/construction of streets/storm drain systems. The incumbent prepares accurate reports, work orders, and other written material as needed. This employee is accountable for the efficient/effective utilization of personnel, equipment, and materials. The Crew Leader has thorough knowledge of the department’s purpose, functions, and practices. The Crew Leader trains/evaluates assigned employees and works under the general supervision of the Public Works Director. The Crew Leader reviews plans and inspects construction of Town Capital Improvement Projects that involve street and storm drain improvements. Work assignments may vary from day to day and the Crew Leader may be called out to perform the work of a Serviceperson due to absences or job requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:
Physical Requirements:Requires frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, and lifting/moving up to 60 lbs. The incumbent must be able to give/receive clear written/oral instruction. The incumbent must be able to transverse uneven terrain associated with field work. Physical labor associated with this position often takes place in inclement weather and/or under adverse working conditions. The Incumbent must possess the physical strength/agility sufficient to perform the work of the class.
Working Conditions:Requires exposure to hazardous conditions: e.g., working in traffic; working at night; entry into confined spaces; deep excavations; excavations in close proximity to high voltage electric, gas and other utilities. This position will be called out during snow and ice storms. There is frequent exposure to loud noise, asphalt fumes, extreme heat and cold.Requires travel to off site locations and exposure to the elements 80 % of the time. Requires exposure to hazardous materials: e.g., paints, toluene, solvents, hot liquid asphalt, and asbestos cement pipe.

Terms of Employment:This is a full-time position. Responding to after-hour emergencies is required. The incumbent may elect to be covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
