Town of South Hadley is Hiring a Director of Veterans Services Near South Hadley, MA

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and customer-oriented individual to serve as the Director of Veteran Services for the Town of South Hadley. As part of this role, you will manage the South Hadley Veteran Services Office, providing essential support and resources to veterans and their dependents. Summary of Responsibilities:

· Serve as the Director of Veteran Services in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws (MGL) Chapter 115 and section 108 of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Regulations and Rules and Regulations of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and applicable Massachusetts and Federal Laws.

· Manage the annual budget preparation and execution for Veterans' Benefits, including forecasting, reporting, and reimbursement.

· Process applications for veterans and dependents for benefits from such agencies as the US Department of Veterans Affairs, the Massachusetts Executive Office of Veterans’ Services and the Social Security Administration, related to employment, vocational or other educational opportunities, hospitalization, medical care, pensions and more.

· Collaborate with other government agencies, veteran organizations, and other stakeholders to develop and provide comprehensive support services.

· Maintain confidential records and prepare necessary reports, including Annual Reports and VA documentation.

· Stay updated on changes in laws, regulations, and procedures related to veterans' benefits through training and seminars.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

The following requirements may be substituted by an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job:

· Must be a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States

· Possess a thorough understanding of MGL ch.115 and ch.471, and other State and Federal laws and resources pertaining to veterans and their dependents; methods and principles of veterans’ benefits assistance, casework and administration;

· Ability to establish effective relationships with recipients, legislators, government agencies, veteran organizations and the general public; Must maintain a high degree of confidentiality in case management.

· Must have reliable transportation and be capable of traveling to various sites frequently during working hours, such as visits to housebound veterans and those confined to hospitals and nursing homes.

· Strong dedication to supporting veterans and a commitment to enhancing equitable access to resources for underserved populations.

· Desirable qualifications include:

o Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as social work, public administration, human services, or a related field.

o Prior relevant experience and training in veterans' services and benefits administration, case management, government administration, or a closely related area would be highly beneficial.

Status and Compensation:

This is an FLSA exempt, non-union, benefited position with the option to work either 4 days/32 hours per week or 5 days/40 hours per week (typically M-F; 8:00am to 4:30pm with occasional weekend and evening hours) with an anticipated hiring range of $32 - $38 per hour depending on qualifications.
