The advertised salary range encompasses the entire compensation range for the position classification. The anticipated hiring range is $78,871.32 to $96,617.36. However, the actual salary offered will be determined by various factors, including skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
We're seeking candidates with the following skills:
  • Experience in Governmental Accounting
  • CPA Certification/License (Preferred but not required)
  • Familiarity with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
  • Experience in financial reporting and ACFR preparation

JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY
 
Positions assigned to this class are responsible for performing complex financial and accounting duties and providing advanced, professional level accounting support to the Town.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is a fully qualified and experienced level professional classification in the financial services job family. Incumbents perform the full range of duties that demonstrates knowledge of expected functional requirements or performance specifications within financial services. Work involves the application of sound principles and best practices associated with planning and problem solving. Works independently and performs varied assignments requiring broad knowledge in accounting/finance. Analyzes complex issues and suggests solutions to management.ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Town’s needs.

  • Participates in the accomplishment of organizational and departmental goals and objectives; monitors and evaluates the efficiency, effectiveness and accuracy of program operations, procedures, and use of resources; recommends and/or implements improvements as needed.
  • Assists with the preparation of the Town’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR); interacts with external auditors as deemed necessary.
  • Performs complex bank and investment account reconciliations; maintains strong relationships with banking agencies; monitors daily bank balances and initiates account transfers as needed; reviews balances and daily activity; prepares required journal entries; identifies and resolves bank discrepancies.
  • Assists with internal and external reporting functions; conducts related research; provides necessary documentation regarding financial transactions.
  • Performs complex financial analysis; prepares standard and ad hoc financial reports; develops, updates and implements policies, procedures pertaining to accounting functions.
  • Assists with the analysis and implementation of automated financial systems; provides guidance and assistance in the resolution of difficult accounting issues; interprets and resolves accounting problems identified by staff, auditor or other departments; clarifies accounting requirements, procedural needs and priorities. 
  • Conducts year end closing processes.
  • Conducts financial and budget planning and analysis.
  • Coordinates department and organization budget processes.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (at job entry)

Education and Experience:
 
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and 4 years of journey-level experience in governmental accounting; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience. Master’s Degree preferred.KNOWLEDGE
  • Public sector accounting, budgeting and finance principles and practices; 
  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
  • Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB);
  • Financial statement preparation;
  • Statistical analysis methods and techniques;
  • Research methods and techniques;
  • Applicable Federal, state and local laws, codes, ordinances, rules and regulations;
  • Standard office equipment including the computer and programs relevant to the performance of applicable duties and responsibilities;
  • Customer service principles.
