**Hiring Range $40,409.00 - $48,000.00**Performs semi-skilled to skilled manual work in the construction, repair, maintenance and preparation of athletic facilities. Work involves providing work leadership to others and performing work duties at a higher skill level and with greater independence. Work in this class requires great attention to detail regarding the specifics of athletic field preparation. Work in this class also requires the ability to lead a crew in the independent preparation of fields. An employee in this class may be assigned to specialized work at the Cricket Pitch where specific knowledge and greater independence is required. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the athletic facilities maintenance supervisor.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Serves as work crew leader providing field supervision of full-time employees, volunteers, community service workers, and seasonal workers; serves in the absence of the Athletic Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.Assists in the training of new and existing employees and setting of employee goals.Maintains athletic facilities to the required playing standard.Maintains the cricket block and field turf grass.Performs general upkeep of Church Street Park.Performs basic landscaping services such as mowing, edging, trimming, weeding, and pruning.Applies herbicides.Performs routine maintenance on dug outs, fences and other field structures.Cleans rental shelters, park buildings, empties trash and recycling.Mows fields in a specific manner with specialized equipment.Assists with the turf management plan by overseeding, fertilizing, topdressing, aerating, and sodding.Informs the public of the facility rules and regulations. Assists division and department with special projects.Works with others in major projects such as rebuilding infields, cutting lips or other construction-like projects.Operates all equipment necessary to perform assigned task including, vehicles, mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, string trimmers, blowers, edgers, sprayers, hand and power tools and liners.Cleans, inspects, and maintains tools, equipment and vehicles on a regular basis; performs some routine maintenance.Assists in ensuring tools and equipment utilized by the staff are inspected, maintained and operated in a safe manner at all times; reports issues to supervisor.Wears proper PPE when performing tasks and makes sure others do so as well.Directs tasks of seasonal workers, volunteers and community service workers; teaches new employees about equipment, safety and operating procedures.Inspects work after completion to make sure it is satisfactory/up to standards.Applies chemical pesticides under the supervision of the licensed applicator.Prepares athletic fields for play including dragging, mowing, lining; in case of rain, the application of drying agents to facilitate play.Assists other Town departments with special events and emergency situations as needed.Responds to citizen inquires and complaints regarding parks and grounds. Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school with considerable experience in turf management and/or athletic facility maintenance. Additional training and/or education in athletic field maintenance is desirable as is crew leadership experience.
