We are currently accepting applications for the part time position of:

Community Center Building Supervisor

Department of Recreation and Community Programs

Starting Hourly Range: $32.25 - $36.80

Shift/Schedule will be Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 5p.m. – 9p.m.

The REQUIRED Town of Lexington application form and cover letter must be received in the

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Community Center Director, assists in the management of the Community Center building and the programs during evenings and weekends.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Monitors all Community Center activities.
  • Provides the highest level of customer service, exercises diplomacy and acts as the problem solver to all customer in-person or on the phone, assuring users a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • Provides a timely response to inquiries and complaints from visitors to the Community Center.

Refers individuals to appropriate Community Center or Town staff.

  • Acts as a liaison with the building custodian to address custodial issues or concerns.
  • Prepares end of shift paperwork. Prepares the appropriate end of day transaction reports, credit card transactions and secures receipts and cash.
  • Oversees the registration for programs and provides information and assistance to the general public regarding all program offerings.
  • Secures and closes the Community Center.
  • Acts as Risk Manager and reports incidents to the Community Center Director.
  • Responsible for oversight of equipment and materials on a daily basis. Advises staff of any equipment or facilities issues.
  • Provides assistance to Community Center staff with programming and special events, as needed.
  • Provides assistance to citizens for us of all program and technical equipment in Community

Center.

  • Acts as a back-up for the Municipal Assistant at the service counter, as needed.
  • Enforces all Community Center policies, rules and regulations.
  • Keeps daily record of activities at the Community Center.
  • Oversees the operation of the Community Center evenings and weekends.
  • Performs special projects and other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.
  • Regular attendance at the workplace is required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Functional supervision of transaction counter staff and volunteers.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Associates Degree in Recreation & Leisure Studies, management or a related field, with one to three years of increasingly responsible related experience in the development and implementation of recreational, social and cultural programs and activities.

Valid driver’s license.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

  • Procedures for developing and implementing recreational activities and programs.
  • Methods, equipment, and materials used in recreation operation.
  • A variety of recreational, social, and cultural programs for youth and adults.
  • Public relations and marketing strategies, media channels, and public service agencies.
  • Principles of recreation program instruction.
  • Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and safety regulations.
  • Recent developments and current sources of information related to recreation planning and administration.
  • Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment/software.

Ability to:

  • Plan, coordinate, direct, and implement recreation programs suited to the needs of the community.
  • Elicit community and organizational support for recreation programs.
  • Coordinate a variety of tasks, meet multiple deadlines, and effectively problem-solve.
  • Operate computer and various software necessary for performing assigned duties.
  • Use independent judgment and personal initiative in the performance of job duties.
  • Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Effectively handle an environment which involves close contact with coworkers and the public.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is performed in a highly trafficked, busy office with frequent interruptions. Operates computer, printer, photocopier, fax machine, typewriter, and other office equipment. Work requires extended periods of sitting, reaching, typing, and mousing, which requires eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity. May be required to stand for extended periods and to lift and/or move equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.

Some work is performed in a highly trafficked, crowded, and often noisy office environment.

Operates computer, printer, photocopier, fax machine, and other office equipment.
