Zoning/Code Compliance Officer

The Town of Holly Springs is seeking a passionate, and hard-working professional to join the Development Services Team as its next Zoning/Code Compliance Officer with a salary starting at $60,978 dependent upon qualifications and experience. The Zoning/Code Compliance Officer will complete a variety of tasks while enforcing municipal, state, and federal regulations. Primary tasks include inspections for non-compliance in zoning, nuisance, and minimum housing ordinances. This position requires extensive outdoor activities. The work schedule is normal business hours with occasional evening and weekends.

 What you will bring to the Development Services Team:

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
  • Strong written/oral communication skills, self-confidence, and the ability to interpret and firmly enforce relevant ordinances with tact and courtesy.
  • Experience in customer service with resolving complaints and / or conflicts.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and provide independent action including frequent contacts with citizens, engineers, architects, and developers.
  • Experience or knowledge in zoning investigations, zoning or nuisance abatement enforcement, or related work.

Preference may be given to candidate with:

  • Associate degree in related field; or equivalent education and/or experience. Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is an acceptable alternative.
  • Zoning Inspector, Housing Inspector certification, ICC/AACE Certified Code Enforcement Officer, and Certified Zoning Official (CZO) certification or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Work experience in planning, zoning, building construction, or code enforcement; experience in reading site plans and engineering drawings.

 What you will be doing:

  • Educate and provide information to citizens, developers, and the general public in relation to applicable laws, town policies, regulations, and codes.
  • Through proactive patrols & received complaints, investigate and identify non-compliant concerns, take pictures, gather evidence and accurately document conditions of properties in code case file utilizing appropriate software programs.
  • Analyze complex administrative information and issues, define problems, evaluate alternatives and recommend methods, procedures and techniques for resolution of issues to gain code compliance.
  • Utilize acquired skills in organization and time management to prioritize duties to accomplish a high-quality work product while adapting to constant changes in priority with stringent time limits.
  • When necessary; issue appropriate Notices or Citations and perform follow-up inspections to ensure code compliance.
  • Work independently while requiring minimal direction and direct supervision.
