NATURE OF WORK
This is the entry level position in the Public Works department specific to the Town potable water system. This position is semi-skilled labor involving use and / or operation of light vehicles, machinery, and hand and power tools in the preventative maintenance and construction on the Utilities water distribution system pipes and appurtenances.
This position may include some reading, installation, inspection, repairs, and testing of water meters. It is a mandatory requirement of this position to work overtime, take weekend duty, and be on-call for all Public Works and Utilities functions.
When on-call, must be able to respond to work within 60-minutes for emergencies, i.e., snow plowing, and water breaks. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Working knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities.
Working knowledge of maintenance operations, services, and activities as they relate to the operation of the Town.

The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to touch, handle, grasp, push and pull.
The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, crouch, squat, kneel, bend, twist, climb, balance and reach with both arms.
Due to the physical nature of this position, sufficient physical stamina, mobility, and dexterity are required, as is the ability to hear and see to safely perform assigned tasks.
Work may occasionally be performed indoors, but will most frequently be performed outdoors.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes, moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and vehicular traffic.
