Town of Firestone is Hiring a Streets Maintenance Technician I Near Firestone, CO

Summary
The Streets Maintenance Technician I assists with the general maintenance of municipal streets, traffic control system, road right-of-ways, and signage. Completes maintenance, repair services and snow removal to Town streets, as needed. Works under the direct supervision of the Streets Foreman and exercises limited judgment in meeting assigned objectives and delivery of services. This position has no supervisory or lead responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The below list is intended to illustrate the responsibilities of the position and is not all-encompassing. The Town may change these duties at any time.
  • Assists with street repairs and maintenance as needed
  • Assists with cleaning and maintaining Town road right-of-ways, including mowing, weed removal, and other maintenance, as required
  • Performs flagging and related safety functions and controls traffic at job sites
  • Assists with traffic light maintenance (lens repair, pedestrian buttons) and also performs routine traffic cabinet maintenance
  • Applies mosquito control substances as required during the summer season
  • Performs snow removal as dictated by the Town’s snow removal program
  • Assists with daily, preventative, and seasonal maintenance of all municipally owned structures, and adjacent grounds
  • Operates a variety of hand and power equipment to perform job duties
  • Performs a variety of duties that require the use and wear of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Performs routine pre/post-use safety checks of equipment and minor maintenance on vehicles and equipment and maintains records of such activities
  • Assists with the preparation of records, reports, and documentation
  • May work in confined spaces that require ventilation to protect against potential noxious gases and fumes
  • Facilitates good communication with other Town staff and the public, which may include sharing information and receiving feedback, listening to and respecting input, participating in workgroup conversations, and directly and respectfully dealing with issues that arise
  • Actively promotes a culture of safety by observing and following all Town and Department safety procedures, regulations, and policies and assists in ensuring others do so to promote a safe work environment and prevent injuries and illnesses
  • Responds to customer inquiries and complaints as instructed by the Streets Foreman
  • Responsible for entering and completing work orders in the Public Works work order system
  • May be required to work overtime, be on-call and/or work a varying schedule including weekends and during emergency situations
  • Assists with various Town events and festival set-up and tear-down activities
  • Participates in ongoing training for personal and professional development

  • Basic understanding of Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations as they apply to the Town of Firestone
  • Willingness and ability to learn Town code enforcement techniques and principals
  • Basic knowledge of national standards of the MUTCD
  • Knowledge of maintenance and operation and proper safety protocols when working with small engine and heavy machinery
  • Skilled in troubleshooting mechanical problems
  • Ability to effectively interact with all Town staff and the general public
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, computers, tablets, and software, including the basic use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GIS mapping, and databases
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos, maps, and drawings and perform common mathematical operations
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety rules and complete daily operations in a safe and
  • competent manner
  • Ability to keep the workplace clean and organized, equipment clean and serviced, and take care of Town-owned assets appropriately
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Previous maintenance experience is preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver license, and obtain a Class B CDL within one (1) year of employment and maintain a safe driving record throughout employment
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Flagger Certification within three (3) months of being hired
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Confined Space certification within three (3) months of being hired
  • Must obtain within the first year and maintain throughout employment a general Pesticide Applicators License

Physical Activities:

Work is regularly performed outdoors and occasionally indoors, with frequent exposure to extreme temperatures and all weather conditions. Work is performed year-round with regular exposure to any of the following: loud noise, heavy traffic, and some hazardous situations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with times of increased noise.

Body Movement:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, bend, stoop, or kneel. On rare occasions, the employee may be required to climb, crawl and balance. The employee must be physically able to operate various motor vehicles. An employee is required to be available and on-call at various hours. Employees must frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.

Vision:
Employees must be able to consistently see with near and far acuity, depth perception, color vision, and field vision.

Hearing:
Employees must have the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds (e.g., machinery, telephones, alarms); communicate clearly and effectively; understand and be understood; be able to consistently engage in ordinary conversations.
